The second of the two Mexican weeks required a plane trip across to the east side of the country to the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Cabo San Lucas. Reuniting here with the boys, it was another luxury stay in the beachfront resort of ME Cabo Hotel, however, it was here that we got a much greater taste of the Mexican culture and lifestyle. The first reason being the food. Small street stalls and shacks all served up cheap, yet very tasty Mexican food, with tacos, burritos, qaesdillas, fajitas and an extensive array of fillings in which to choose from fish, shrimp and octopus, to chorizo, beef and chicken. After 7 days here I'm pretty sure, each of us went close to polishing off approximately 50 tacos each as it became our staple brunch, dinner and late night snack every day; I could definitely think of worse cuisines to live off though!

The second aspect was the nightlife. With Cabo being another hotspot for the American spring-breakers party, we immediately knew we were in for a large week when arriving to the news that there was a 3-day music concert (AWOL festival) occurring in the area ... and when I say 'in the area', I mean in our hotel pool area. This increased our mood to go out and with many suggestions from friends to check out a range of bars in the nearby downtown, we spent the majority of nights drinking. After a game or two of Kings Cup, we'd always seem to find ourselves heading to Squid Roe & Mandala, which were next to each other, and it was very much 'anything goes' at these bars. Tequila, coronas, dancing in cages, on poles, barefoot, dropping glasses (Joe) ... as long as you were in their bar and spending money they were more than happy for you to be doing mostly anything you desired. One night I lost a bet and was dressed by Joe for the night, in which I was mix 'n' matched with a Swiss apron, lederhosen trousers and a French beret to demonstrate a range of cultures. However, I still got the last laugh as Joe had also lost a bet in which we designed his hair for the night; a heavily waxed middle part combover which visibly killed all Joes game and mood. The rest of the nights were filled with silly stories including Joe jumping a few barricades to sneak into the VIP area for free drinks, Louis thought he was 16 again with a rather embarrassing performance of Soulja Boy on the dance floor, Jack continued his streak of throwing up every time he drinks, and all were involved in the odd late night ocean swim.

With a few cloudy days to begin with, we were extremely fortunate to have beautiful, sunny weather to wake up to each morning for the majority of the week. This meant most of our days were based around water, with a pool and a lovely beach at our mercy just 50 steps from our front door. Our day activities included sunbaking, attempting to climb the nearby mountain and almost getting caught up in a near death experience, getting a boat over to Lovers Beach at the far point of the peninsula to visit the el arco de Cabo and have a swim, snorkel and rock jump, and finally decided to hire a couple of Jetski's for an hour to zip around in the Bahia San Lucas of speeds up to 50km/h which proved to be great fun. The other notable day trip was to hire a car and head to the Cabo Pulmo national park at the east side of the peninsula. A few wrong turns, and loose directions, and we eventually arrived at our destination 5 hours later, however we did get to swim at a lovely isolated beach along the way. Upon hiring our snorkelling gear we noticed a postcard with the picture of a shark lurking in the area we were about to swim, followed by whale sightings about 60m off the shore and very soon I was not all that keen on snorkelling. After a mere 5 minutes and only 2 feet deep of water I decided it be best for my stress levels if I kick back on the sand and mind the gear.

The past two weeks in Mexico have been great to both relax in luxury accommodation thanks to Jane & Tonys generous offer of the timeshare, as well as get a feel for the downtown Mexican lifestyle. Whist we have been lucky to endure such great weather, it's sad to say that may well be the last of it as we depart Mexico and head back up to finish off the trip with a few weeks in California before heading home, not long to go now!
