We brought the tickets over a year ago and finally it was time for our first game of the rugby world cup!!!
Emily and I decided to head into the city two hours before the game. We started our mission from the Fan Zone which is at the south end of Hamilton City, approx 20 minute walk to the stadium. You could feel the excitement, the city was buzzing!!! Almost a total blackout with ABs supporters everywhere, but there were a few red and white samurai warriors to mix it up. I got hungry halfway through the walk so we grabbed a quick feed of Thai food and then we were back on the street. As we got closer to the stadium you could hear the japanese drumming crew, awesome to listen to and to see! After paying $10 for two cokes (can anyone say rip off?) we made it to our seats. Pretty good seats too right on the 22, but we did pay $200NZD for them. About 10 minutes later the karanga sounds and both teams are welcomed to the field, the crowd goes crazy. We observe a minutes silence for those affected by the Christchurch earthquake and the Japan earthquake and tsunami, nice touch but there are always those people that don't understand what silence means which was disappointing. HAKA TIME = insane!! The haka was amplified throughout the whole stadium, they did Ka Mate which is ok as I'm sure they'll do Kapa O Pango at the finals, YEAH!!! The game was awesome, and the All Blacks smashed it, as expected. But what was really great was the crowd went crazy when Japan scored there one try!
All in all it was absolute awesomeness, the only downside was it was way too freezing, 5 layers of clothes and I was still cold. Next time i'm wearing my ski jacket and balaclava!!!
Next game, Wales vs Samoa on Sunday afternoon. Cmon Wales!!!!!
