The 21st was spent on Genovesa Island between Darwin bay and El Barranco. For breakfast we were served a generous helping of bread, cheese, ham, scrambled eggs and fruit. We then took the dingy boat (Zodiac) to lava rocks to see a variety of birds and gulls. It was a 2 hour walk with blistering sun. We took 100s of pictures of the birds and saw babies - which are really cute white fluffy - some blue footed boobies and an owl. Browny had fun searching the rock pools and found some tiny crabs.
When we came back to the boat our room had been tidied again. We had a delicious fruit salad and got ready for snorkelling. We went straight from the dingy boat rather than from a beach, which obviously meant we were in deeper water. Mostly we just saw large fish and a couple of sealions playing on the rocks but it was good fun.
After an hour or so snorkelling we went back on board for lunch- soup, chicken, chips, coleslaw, asparagus and tomatoes. Dessert was interesting - a sweet fruit 'filling' that as Nathan said would make a good strudel if it had pastry with it. Nap time til 2 (all this snorkelling and eating is really tiring).
On our afternoon walk along lava rocks we saw loads more birds including Darwin finches, other small birds and herons (Eddy and I now have a Galápagos wildlife guide so we can identify exactly what we see!). We didn't snorkel this time but just chilled on the beach instead, those that did snorkel saw a sting ray. The sealions on the beach were quite entertaining, they make really strange noises which sound almost like they are being sick. A sealion pup sounded very distressed after its mum decided to go off for a swim and leave it by itself.
Our dingy boat almost didn't start on the way back, however there were other boats around ready to help us out. Luckily it did start though and we got back on board to cheese puff balls with honey which tasted like waffles. After a much needed shower (which was lovely and warm) we relaxed for a while before another lovely dinner of fish and vegetables. We would be eating quite healthily if it wasn't for all the snacks inbetween! The four of us played cards before bed however the boat was really rocky and everyone felt quite ill after eating a lot and then swaying around straight away. We were debriefed for the following day's activities however our guide, Norman, likes to say 'you'll see' so we were still left unsure about what we were doing and as he seems quite clueless. Apparently he grows coffee for a living and has just been a tour guide part time for the last 5 years. He's not as insightful as some other guides we've had but is nice enough. Tonight we are travelling 8 hours to Bartolomé Island.
