We had heard mixed reviews about Otavalo Market but decided to give it a go as we had a free day to spend around Quito. The bus station was incredibly busy, and we had to catch 3 buses to get there which wasn't ideal. We were very happy for Kat's Spanish as the people at the bus station weren't being very helpfulI! It was all similar stuff to what we had seen in Bolivia and Peru - alpaca jumpers, hats, jewellery etc. Kat, Eddy and Browny bought wooly hats and gloves in preparation for Cotopaxi and I bought a Galápagos t-shirt for cheaper than the girls bought theirs on the island so i was happy!
Mexican food for dinner for a change, we had walked past the place many times and seen the guy outside dressed up and singing and shouting for people to come in. We are now looking back at the day and questioning / laughing at the possibility that we may have missed a large chunk of the market as according to Lonely Planet it's the second best thing to do in the whole of South America... our experience definitely didn't live up to that! In hindsight we would have done something different. It was a productive day in the end anyway as Kat and I booked our internal flight in Colombia from Calí to Santa Marta, and we spent the rest of the evening getting ready for Cotopaxi which we are all very excited for!!
