We have arrived!!
Kathmandu is our first destination and what an impression it has already made in less than 24 hours. Within setting foot off the plane we saw our first monk, I've been so excited to see real buddhist monks in Nepal in their beautiful orange robes, how wonderful in less than five minutes there he was, although I didn't picture them in airports filling out forms at immigration, more in temples praying and chanting. Dawa, a local trekking guide who was recommended to me was waiting to pick us up from the airport and boy were we glad to see him, Kathmandu is crazy! People everywhere, dogs everywhere, rubbish everywhere, cars, bikes, tuk tuks all making up their own road rules made a fun but nailbiting trip. What to take a picture of first when theres so many things going on, plus I still don't know how to bloody use my new fancy camera. I instantly fell in love with the place, it's pure chaos, but fantastic. Down a little side street in Thamel was our accomodation, Acme Guesthouse, the saying 'you get what you pay for' sprang to mind and how true it is, so the fact we only paid £5 each a night we didn't expect much, but although the strong, stale cigarette aroma and skanky bed sheets gave it the lived in feel, after travelling for 24 hours we felt an upgrade was in order. So all in all so far so good, plus with only a couple of hours in the country Ryan's already found us a gym, he has a real talent. We had our first meal at a place Dawa reccommended called New Orleans, what a hidden gem, down a little side street, full of candles, carved wood, fabulous local music and burning inscence I couldn't wipe the smile of my face, I can't believe we're actually here. Now it's the middle of the night and I'm wide awake, don't you just love jetlag.
