Hello, hello!
How are you? Hope everyone is well! Sorry don’t get to write many individual emails but I am thinking of you!
Another busy week has past with yet more excitement here in Clarence Town. After my weekend on call which ended with a downer cow that at 10pm I finally got her up! I had been to the farm before and the wee old guy practically got in the back of my van when I was getting the drugs out, one of those scary "he’s behind you" moments.
The week has been surreal, the new American vet arrived (Alison) so I have a new colleague and flatmate. Alison has been coming out on calls with me and my god we’ve had some special calls this week! Its quite funny because also must be about 6ft and I’m tiny compared to her!
House calls included a routine visit to the Inbreds House "The Linquists" just hilarious, the poor guy can hardly talk as his face is so long and distorted and you just have to smile! Like you can understand and nod. You dearnt go in the house where the inbred kids are wearing Christmas hats! and it stinks so bad. The court has an order that a vet has to visit them every month to worm and de-flea the animals as the guy cant even unscrew a hose from a tap! Then there was the visit to a crazy womans house where it was filthy and her ‘indoor’ cat had passed loads of worms! thats how disgusting her house was, she even presented me a hairball on a dinner plate! Which I’m sure she wont wash before eating her next meal.
On the foal front my little emergency minature foal that came in this weekend is now called Chester and he’s adorable, my 4 hourly stomach tubing has been successful and he has now started drinking out of a bucket and strolls around. So his recovery is great and he’s gone from deaths door to going home!
I also had to go into someone’s roof to catch Rosalla’s a native bird (like a small parrot) which was an experience amongst the huge cobwebs in someones attic!!! Nodoubt with redback spiders living in them!!!!!! Eerrrr The mission was successful however! Also a water dragon which was hit my a car was brought in. So its never dull. Not to mention the "female" dog that actually had boys bits! Yep a hermaphrodite, I even took a picture. We called the dog Shim (She-him).
This week I’ve castrated horses, one was a minature pony stallion which we had to knock down, he definitely had "little man syndrome" and was full of attitude!
Alison and I have been roped into doing a talk at a rescue centre on injured wildlife in particular kangaroos! As both of us are non ozzie this is quite a challenge but should be entertaining. They even wanted us to demonstrate a dissection!!!
This weekend is my weekend off and it starts tomorrow on Friday! I’m going scuba diving on Saturday to a wreck dive should be good, hopefully no sharks!!! And then in the evening we’re heading out to a Bush Dance have no idea what it’ll be like but I’m sure we’ll stick out a mile! Milly may be joining us for the dance so we’ll see!
That’s all for now, hope all is well
Love kt xxxxxxxxxxx
