Hey everyone,
well wednesday we had a quick swim in the morning then went to MBK again so ian could get some more t-shirts! and had an early dinner there then got train that night to Nong Khai.
Train was ok was sleeper train so there was beds but i ended up stuck in the top bunk which was narrower and once had in my bag and little backpack there wasnt much space also was very cold as right near the air-con!! slept ok until ian woke me up to tell me he was going to sleep then couldnt sleep again for hours!! then ian woke me up for sunrise but couldnt really see alot as cloudy!! been crappy weather cloudy and rainy as thai gov have been trying to get it to rain!! but still been warm! then went back to sleep for a bit as train took for hours longer than supposed to so was meant to arrive at 8.30am but arrived at 12.30pm lol! and the toilet was funny as you could actually see the tracks through the hole!!
Guesthouse in Nong Khai was really nice had a lovely garden and overlooked the mekong and laos on the other side of the mekong! room was nice as well and had a lovely bathroom although big gaps between tops of walls and roof to allow plants to grow but meant loads of mosquitos!! the first day we didnt do anything just slept for a bit and sat in the garden! then had dinner in a floating restaurant on the mekong which was nice!
Yesterday we hired bikes and rode out to the sculpture park in nong khai which is about 6km out and a bit strange as just massive concrete buddist and hindu statues but quite good and ian enjoyed feeding the massive fish lol!! but started to rain just as we were getting ready to leave so had an ice cream and eased off a little bit so we decided to go for it! however when we got to the end of that road noticed that ians back wheel was very wobbly and kept catching on mud guard which jammed it all completely and wheel just stopped moving so couldnt ride it back!! so found payphone and phoned guesthouse buit he said wife had car so couldnt come and get us!! so ended up getting tuk tuk back with two bikes in the back with ian who was holding them in and i sat on the little front perch next to the driver, which was ok apart from the fact i was the only one who got rained on and noticed halfway back that i was getting all the mud off of the wheel splattered up the back of my leg and my trousers were black and dripping by the time we got back and so was my leg!!! so i ended up getting straight in shower with trousers on so could wash them too!lol!!
The today we got a tuk tuk to the border, then there is shuttle buses to go across the bridge between the thai and lao border control! got lao visa on arrival which was quite simple and then got taxi to vientienne as not very expensive as only about 20km didnt take long! then just had a walk around really and went to vietienne's version of the arc de triomphe which was good!! good views of the city from the top!! now going to go and get dinner!
so bye for now xxx
