Today we had a full day in Dublin as our last day in Ireland. We started it off with a bus tour of the city, stopping at famous sites such as the Harp Bridge, the presidents house, and the potato famine memorial.
After the bus tour we had a tour of the Guinness brewery. We learned how they roast the barley to make the stout, adding of the hops and finally the fermentation process. It takes one week to produce the beer. I learned how to properly sip Guinness by breathing in through your nose first, bypassing the foam to get to the brew, and then breathing out after the sip. The foam is the most bitter part so it is important to try to not drink that all right away.
I also received a "certificate" showing that I learned and was able to demonstrate the proper way to pour a Guinness. There are 7 steps to pouring a Guinness and it was fun to give it a go. At the brewery I had "guinness stew" for lunch which was delicious.
That night we were on our own for dinner and Matt took a few of us to a restaurant called "the Bank". The restaurant was made out of an old bank and was absolutely stunning inside. Full of marble, statues and a man playing the piano for ambiance. The restrooms were even made in the old vault.
We ended the night by hopping around to various pubs, listening to Irish music and drinking Guinness, Bulmers, and Jameson. All 3 are made in Ireland so it just seemed right to do that. Tomorrow I head home to Minnesota. I am on a different flight to Minneapolis, so I'll sleep in for a bit and then take a city bus to the airport. I am looking forward to seeing Jason and my dogs!
