This morning we left Galway early to get to Dublin for our last concert. We travelled about 3 hours with a "comfort stop" along the way. Our bus driver, George, is a native of Belfast and is really good about keeping us entertained on our rides with stories, information about Ireland and Irish music.
Upon arriving in Dublin we went straight away for St Patrick's Cathedral. We had our last concert in the middle of the afternoon, and did our full amount of repitiore. This was a bittersweet concert, as it was an amazing and beautiful venue, however this was Russell's last time directing us. He has accepted a job in Kansas at the university and started right after the tour.
We had lunch at a local pub called the Brazen Head. This is Ireland's oldest pub, first being established in the 1100's. It was a fun atmosphere, and I am loving my fill of meat and potatoes in all these Irish restaurants.
That evening we went to The Merry Ploughboy pub. It was an amazing "farewell" dinner! I had a leg of lamb while watching Irish musicians and dancers. We had a great show very similar to Riverdance, just on a much smaller scale with 5 dancers. They were so good! We even were able to stay after the show closed down as our tour guide Matt had reserved for our choir to get some extra time there. Kim had arranged a "version" of the Parting Glass for us to sing to Russell as he was leaving the next morning. The song had lyrics of how much we enjoyed having him as a director and going off to Kansas.
