Prague day 2
We got up early yesterday and went for breakfast downstairs which was included in our room.
After breakfast just before we left the room to walk around Babi got a call on her cellphone but could not answer it in time due to the little zipped up purse she keeps it in inside her big purse. Poor Babi was worried and couldn't stop wondering who it was and why they would call her and maybe Dedo didn't make it off the train and kept bringing it up.
We went for a tour around our hotel area with Babi and this time during the day. (way different then the night tour Niki and I had where the city was deserted) there were people everywhere! School trips and tours all over. It doesn't matter how many people are in the streets you can't hide the beauty of Prague. 4 years ago when I saw Bratislava old town I thought it was the coolest place ever. And then came Vienna. Vienna was an amazing experience and so incredible to see, but Prague....Prague is unreal. So much history and it doest matter where you look you are surrounded by huge old buildings and amazing cathedrals and hills! From the top you can see so much it is incredible.
After our walk in the area of our hotel we went to get out bags and check out.
From there we continued our tour across one of Prague's famous bridges with statues all over it and into the old town.
Walking through the streets Babi kept telling Niki how horrible it is now. She would say things like "this store here used to be for shoes, now look at it!" she pointed out where stores she used to like were.
We stopped for a break in the square where the famous astronomical clock is and had snacks we brought with us.
We kept touring around taking in the sites and expecting Babi to say we will find the metro and head toward the train station. Then she told Niki we would be at the main square in a couple of minutes. We couldn't believe an 87 year old could walk so far. She was quite proud of herself too.
We had some time to kill before the train back to Bratislava so we picked a coffee shop and went inside. We were severely ripped off but it was our fault. We knew it would be expensive in the main square but didn't realize how expensive. It ended up being around 10 dollars a coffee. And no it wasn't starbucks!
That pretty much ends our Prague journey. We walked to the station caught the train and spent the next 4 hours listening to music, looking out the window at the smaller villages along the way, and playing monkey island on my phone! (done the first one now hehe)
One of my favorite moments was after we walked with Dedo so slowly to the restaurant I helped him find the washroom and when he went to wash his hands he was trying to figure out how to turn the tap on. The look on his face when I waved my hands under the sensor to start the water was priceless. It was the same for the hand dryer. It really makes you think about the changes they have seen in 87 years. Living through communism too. The world is a totally different playground now from when they were kids!
