Jambo!
Last night Steph and I did a lot of reflecting and absorbing all of the information we took in during the day. It's so nice to have someone to talk with...I cannot imagine doing this alone like a lot of the other volunteers. After we ate dinner, we both felt a little ill, and when we woke up this morning Steph had a cold. I'm determined not to catch it. I feel ok at the moment. Today at the orphanage we learned that Alison is also sick, so we only spent a couple of hours at the orphanage today so we all can go home and get some rest. But while we were there we walked to the market and Jane and some of the boys bought some cabbage, avocados, carrots, and other food for the week. The orphanage ran out of firewood for cooking so Antony went to buy a tree (which costs about $70) which is a lot cheaper than buying pre-cut firewood.
Afterwards Alison and Jane took us to a fruit stand where we bought freshly blended fruit drinks (pineapple, mango, pawpaw, avocado) which I hope will give my immune system a boost! It was very tasty. We asked Alison and Jane about their first few weeks at Sidai last year and how they coped with everything they saw, and they said that pretty much all of the volunteers have their breakdown point at about 1 month...so I guess when we are flying to Ireland, Steph and I will share a good cry! Though I think it will happen before then...
Off to do some more laundry. Tomorrow night we are heading to Nairobi with 4 other volunteers to spend the night at Mama Monica's house, then we are being picked up early Friday morning for the safari! I'm not sure if I will have time to write tomorrow, so you may not hear from me until Monday.
With much love,
Kristin
