I've learnt my first rule of backpacking- always keep your electrical stuff fully charged and laundry done- you never know when you might find yourself staying at a place with no hot water and not plugs!!! We've got the plugs in our room back now but still no hot water . . .
Anyway, We've spent the past couple of days exploring bangkok both by foot and tuk-tuk. One of the most memorable ones so far was from one of the nigh markets back to Kho San Road when the tuk-tuk felt like it was going to do a wheelie every time it took off and thought we were going to be squashed between two coaches at one point!
Apart from the Grand Palace, everywhere we've been to has been pretty quiet- I guess most people chose not to come during the hottest month of the year! :) Its been pretty hot the past couple of days but I've discoverred fruit shakes (basically a slushie but made with real fruit), which are keeping me cool. We went out on Khao San Road to a roof top bar and sat on the 4th floor balcony watching the street below while they had live music inside. Really good musicians and we'll proably go back there when we get back to Bangkok. I've got used to all the street hawkers now, you can't walk down the road without being stopped by women selling wooden frogs that make a croaking noise, guys selling hamocks, being asked if we need a tuk-tuk or even if we want to go see a ping pong show!
We got to Kanchanaburi yesterday and will be heading back to Bangkok tomorrow before working our way up thailand over the next week for Thai New Year!
