We headed up to Cape Tribulation today. It is about two hours north of Port Douglas. We started the day at the Port Douglas wildlife habitat. They had all kinds of native species to Australia. We saw Cassowaries, crocodiles, kangaroos, emus and koalas. I got to hold a koala! I had my picture taken with Cody the koala. He was so cute and his fur was so unique. Not really like a cat's fur but it was like a coat. Really thick and almost like a solid surface. Cody only works for thirty minutes a day and i had to have a mini briefing to hold him. He was quite the professional, knowing exactly where the camera was. We then headed out to the Daintree ainforest. It is the second oldest rainforest in the world and the oldest tropical rainforest. We took the river ferry across the river full of crocodiles. We stopped for lunch at an ice cream factory. This little old couple makes 42 flavors of ice cream and sell them to the tourists. While we were eating it started raining. Luckily we had brought our rain gear because jungle surfing is a rain or shine activity. Jungle Surfing is just a cool name for zip lining through the rain
forest. We got there and got suited up. They guides were great and really excited which made the rain not such a bad thing. We had a great time and i even went on the last line upside down! What a thrill! I couldn't even tell where i was but it was great! We then took the bus back to port and had a nice dinner at Rattle and Hum. One thing about Aussie restaurants is that most of them have counter service. So you order and pay at the counter and then go sit and they either bring the food to your table or you pick it up at the window. It is really nice because when you are done you just leave. And the fact that Aussies don't tip make it pretty easy to do. The road sign i posted is one that a cape trib resident made. Along the highway between are the cassowaries and since it was paved their numbers have dwindled. They have speed bumps every so often to keep people aware of this fact. The resident took the speed ump sign on the bottom and adjusted it. This is a legal sign and the only one in the world. They also hace changed other speed bump signs along the way. One is a UFO and another a hat on a head. Very creative.
