So... I'm all alone once more. Alice left yesterday - very sad to see her go! But had an awesome time cruising around Amsterdam with my sis. Not sure if I would go back to stay at the dungeon like hostel that had writing like "Simon was here loving weed" and "Hookers aint worth 50" on the walls but definately glad Alice was there with me!
I now am the very proud owner of a bike. Basically because I don't have the piece of paper with all the technical terms on I can't tell you anything impressive about it except that it is black and silver in colour and at the moment its very shiny. I'll put a photo up of it next time. Yesterday I visited the different bike shops in Amsterdam before taking this little beauty for a test ride. Despite the fact that the guy who rode with me laughed at me getting confused with which side to ride on and the fact that my fingers almost froze off and I was puffing like crazy after only about ten minutes it was enough to convince me that this is what I want to do.
I then hunted out a budget tent (hostels here cost about 20 euro minimum even for our dungeon) and caught the metro to Gaasper camping, about 20 min from the city and tested out my new purchase. It wasn't exactly ideal conditions for camping - it bucketed down with rain as I set up my strangely huge (for one person anyway) tent.
After a lovely feast of orange juice and peanut butter on funny toasted bread I attempted to go to sleep. About 2 hours later, after putting on basically every item of clothing I owned I managed to burrow down into my sleeping bag and finally get warm enough to sleep. I guess no one ever said travelling was easy!
Am picking up my stead this afternoon and plan on riding it back to my igloo - luckily it doesn't get dark until about 9.30 here so if anyone sees a person dressed like an eskimo going about 2 metres a minute - that will be me!
