So, as always, our plans didn't exactly go to plan... nothing like a few suprises in the form of some seriously dodgy paneer butter masala to mix things up a bit. Nice little overshare for my blog readers... basically, we both got sick, one after the other and thats the meal we chose to blame. For future reference - Liv is very sympathetic and caring although points off for forcing me to drink DISGUSTING rehydration mixture... which I might add, she didn't have when she got sick the next day!
So a few extra days in Delhi and Agra were added to our trip. But, as you can see by the classic tourist photo, we did go and see the Taj Mahal. We are pretty stingy travellers and the entrance fee was the equivalent of 2 nights accommodation and food for the 2 of us but it was beautiful. I have to say that it was about half the size that I had pictured in my mind but still, the colour and symmetry of it was stunning. We seemed to be the only tourists that were ok with going barefoot (not too hard after going to Opua school) which meant we didn't get the highly sexy meshlike foot covers. But don't worry, I took some photos of the other tourists looking ridiculous in them... I guess I was more distracted by that then the Taj itself... rather mature I know!
We have finally arrived in Udaipur in southern Rajasthan and it is everything that we had hoped for. Peaceful, clean(er), friendly people, nice food (back into the Indian food after going weak and western for a few days) and our room looks out onto the lake. The lake itself, the 'magical lake complete with story book palace in the middle' is nothing more than a 30cm deep algae covered pond at the moment but you can see that given a good monsoon or two, it would be beautiful.
So, we are now off to find out about cooking classes, train tickets, camel riding, lunch, Rajasthani dancing, a smidgen of shopping and maybe, like yesterday, there will be a random elephant strolling casually down the street!
