Siem Reap has treated us well...we feeling a lot more human and back to enjoying the travels. This town is so cool....very quiet (well, relatige to Phnom Penh) and got lots of character. Our first day here was spent chilling and went out for dinner and drinks...they have Loads of happy hours every where as well.....in particulat, one spot, which has 2 for 1 from morning to midnight and their Angkor Draft is only $0.50!!! so that is two for $0.25....so, guess what we have been drinking!?
1st day of temples
http://www.cambodianonline.net/angkormap.htm
Got picked up by our Tuk Tuk Driver - Thul. He was our driver for the day-
First saw: Bayon, then Angor Thom...then Ta Prohm, had very expensive lunch, then Agkor Wat itself (where a monk in training decided to come and chat to us and somehow tried to squeeze $10 out of us for his studies!!). Went to watch the sun go down on Phnom Bakeng Hill. The heavenes opened as we got up there....we were soaked. Had our little London umbrella, which is clearly not used to such heavy rain. The rain came from the side - and reminded me of Forest Gump, and the part where he explains the rain in Vietnam. Butit was worth it - such a stunning sun set. We almost missed it, as it was very very cloudy and we sholdn't have been able to see a thing, as we were walking down, somehow the skies opened beautifully.
Very tired after a long day...back to hotel at 7pm...quick swim and then out in to town for our $0.25 beers and a $1 meal. Second time eating at this local street side restuarnt. Such good food! And we like supporting the small families trying to make a living.
Day 2 of Temples
Piakc up at 5am for the sunrise at Angkor Wat - got some cool pics, but not really the best sunrise. but still amazing considering where we were.
Dove out 30 odd KMs to see Banteay Srei. So beautiful and then back to the main temples for East Mabong, Ta Som, Neak Pean and Prah Khan.
Absolutely amazing and so incredible!
Got someone staring at me needing the PC, so better be moving - but that's the quick update.
So off for another swim - some lunch and some more $0.25 beers!
