Hello to all our followers!
Firstly - before we carry on reading - please excuse any spelling mistakes - I no longer have my trusty spell check that I used to have and AK is working on another computer.
So.....finally we are at a spot where we can use the interenet for as long as we like and we don't have to pay for it by the second!
Well, our journey since we last updated has been amazing, terrifying, breath taking, gob smacking, intrueging, nausiating....well, any emotion there is - we have had it! Can't believe that it has only been just over two weeks since we left!
On our last day in Bangkok, we were having breakfast and changed our entire intinery all together - we had planend to go to Northern Thailand - do the trekking and temples along the way and then work our way back to Thailand in a clockwise direction. Over breaky, we fancied a few beaches! So promptly cancelled out accomodation and trekking etc and went in to town to book our over night train to Surat Thani - where we would then decide what we wanted to do.
The train journey was helarious - we were stacked in to this carriage with bunkbeds opposite each other - we were opposite these two young dudes on a 6 month travelling trip...this was also their beginning stage. The hostess (if you could call her that) was clearly on something and just giglled all the time - she decided she liked our part of the train (particularly the boys opposite us - and especialy the one with the hairy chest - she sat on his chair and kept rubbing his chest and giggling.....imagine what she would have done if she saw AK's chest!!!!). Well, she then wanted some of our beers and pretty much got smashed with the guys!
Insane, but a fun experience.
We made our way to Ko Lanta and stayed at Relax Bay Resort - we were in heaven - exactly what we needed. we just chilled out, swam in the sea, ate good food, checked out the island via scooter and pretty muich had good rest and relaxation. The weather wasn't the best though - but we loved it - got caught in sudden out bursts of heavy rain and lighting and thunder!
Our next move was on to Ko Phi Phi (obviously thought of our P - co-incidental name :-) and also one of her favourite spots she told us) - well, we are glad to still be alive! The ferry there was mad! The swell was massive and it wasn't a very big boat - now, the Thai's aren't particularly concerned about health and safety...and they actually handed out life jackets - so you can only imagine how insane that was!
Ko Phi Phi is stunning - we loved it. Andre especially loved the Super Sport channel in our Bungalow! No, really, it was sublime. We bought our beers formt he little shpos and sat on the beach in the dark a few times, just listening to the waves and the music and watching the fishing boats on the horizon. AK thought about his Dad alot and when they used to go out and fish.
But, we coudlnt' stay there forever, and had to move on. Next journey was a ferry Krabi and an over night bus to Bangkok - arrived 5:30am- taxi immediatley to airport. Trioed to change flight, but no such luck so had to hang around for 9 hours. We kept our selves entertained. I was interviewed by 5 Thai girls from university practicing their English - was very funny.
CAMBODIA!
First stop Phnom Penh....well, we almost died. Andre and I kept thinking about our Mother's and what their faces would like if they saw how the people drive!! No rules, just go. The funny thing is, that no one seems to get cross when someone cuts infront of you and you almost drive in to a pole!
Once checked in we went for a wonder and then a beer - Happy Hour everywhere - coudln't have tasted any better. My heart still in my throat and André finishing the beers in one gulp.
Rats in the streets once all the street venders have all closed up and looking for food - disgusting.
All in All, once we got the hang of it, we strated to enjoy the city - it is mad and buzzing, everyone is always so eager to help and always smiling. Really beautiful peopel we have come across.
Saw the S-21 Genocide Museaum - aweful. Good to do to get understanding of the history, but aweful. Also spent an afternoon at a pool over looking the river at this fancy hotel...much needed, as poor André was abosultely boiling....he has seriously lost more wait, just from all the sweating! Typical though, as the heavens opened after 20minutes of us being there! haha!
Next journey, and oh, what a journey.....Phnom Penh to Sieam Reap.
This is where the nausiating bit comes in...we were on the back of the bus - whole massive family gets on - we get stared at, particularly the white blondie in the corner, pointed at, laughed at, spoken about, they eat, then puke, then eat some more and then puke some more!!! Arrgh, it was disgusting. Just bad luck we thought, as this can't be normal practice....throwing their food down the stairs on the bus and then spitting in the same place (after they have puked)....eeeeuuuuuw. We were horrified - 6 hours!!!!
We even thought of finishing up around here and heading to AUZ! Can you believe it! Sacriledge!
Finally arrived in Siem Reap....and we have booked ourslevs in to a very nice hotel (have moved on from 2 dragons and gone to Shadow of Angkor 2 - very clean, has a proper shower, new, pool, free internet - pretty much - creature comforts which we kjust need to feel human again - we both think we have learnt a lot about ourselves just in the two weeks we have been out here ).
Siem Reap is great, very chilled out, laid back atmosphere, loads of cool little bars and restaurants, a night market (which we will check out tonight), cool art work and also Angkor Wat nearby - which is ofcourse the main attraction. THey are milking the fact that Angelina Jolie was here for the filing of Tomb Raider - the bar/restaurant where she ate once (called the "Red Piano") even have a Cocktail dedicated to her and a whoel page dedicated to her in their menu....well, it works - especially on our trigger happy travellers.
Tomorrow we start our journey through Angkor Wat - have arranged a Tuk Tuk driver to be our personal driver for the day - the best way to do it for orientation.
So - there we have it - a brief summary on what has been happening. Re the photies, they take forever to uplaod but will try and upload a few if we can.
Will write again soon!
