I think i have just had the best two days of my life!!! Its been that good!
Let me start from the beginning!
We went to the night market with Rebecca (USA) Wood (north London) and Andrew (New Zeland) it was awesum, everything was sooooooooooo cheap! I wanted to buy so much but my bag is full as it is, i can't add much more or i will fall backwards! Oh and i ate a cricket and it tasted surprising, like chicken, will defo being doing it again and trying other bugs! I think i have a taste for bugs lol
Anyway the next morning we started our 2 day one night trekk. First stop was an elephant show. There was about 20 elephants at this camp, some big some small. They did all kinds of tricks, like played football, danced, shot darts etc. They even painted pictures, and they were amazingly good! They were being sold for like 4000 baht which is like 70 english pound! It was kinda sad to watch them being forced to perform, but it seems like they don't know any different, these weren't wild elephants they had been breeded to become performing elephnats i think. Anyway after the show we went and say the babies and their mummies!!!
They were so cute! The youngest was just over 1 year old and his trainer told us he was a trouble maker. I brought some sugar cain and bannas for them for 20 baht, which is like 10p! See what i mean about cheap!! (I brought some bits and bobs at the market and i spent less then a 1 pound!) Anyway feeding the elephants was sooooo cool, i loved every second and so did they!
After we went for lunch by the side of a stream, it was lovely. We got to know everyone a little better. Rebecca from the night before was there, Oliver (UK) his brother Andy (UK) Wendy and Dustin (USA) and Kulldep (UK) Everyone got on so well, it was really nice to take to different people and they were all experienced travellers. Like Andy has been travelling for 6 months, he started in europe and backpacked his way through to here! Kulldep had just been in India and is heading to japan next, their experiences were so interested to hear. Anyway after food we went to another elephant camp which was ooo much better!
The elephants had the run of the place and they were huge, much bigger than the ones at the other camp! So me and Toni climbed on board and started our 1 hours trekk to the waterfall. It was amazing! We went to a waterfall and the elephants went into the water with us on their back! We named our elephant Sir Bryan! We bonded and i will never forget him! Even thou he has probs forgot me. Anyway we found out that these elephants were just to work as logging elephants, they'd move logs around and carrying things, unlike the ones we saw earlier.
So after that we go upto this little Village and we walk through and meet some of the locals, like the blacksmith. The local children were so friendly, Pong (our guide) bought them some sweets which he let us give out and everytime we gave them a sweet they bowed with there hands togther to say thanku! Pong talks us through everything and it was really interesting to learn how this other culture lived. It was hard work thou and i was sweating by the time we made it back to the truck! We walked in one big circle down a steep hill and then back up it. At the top of the hill was where they kept all the pigs they killed for scarfices. It was smelly to say the least!
Next stop was the hot springs but before we could get in we had to catch lunch! We went down to a pond (or something like it) And Pong caught so 9 catfish which we ate for dinner. They tasted so good! After that, HOT SPRINGS. We spent the night sat under the stars in a hot spring listening to music and drinking rum. It was perfect!
The next morning we went on a three hour trekk through the jungle! It was intense, it was so hot! The jungle was so deep that Pong had to use a knife to cut our pathway. Then we got attacked by leeches!! Next to a small bog we were near! I had to pull 2 of my shoem damn things! All the way round Pong was showing us things the forest provided, we tastes leaves that were used for soap and leaves that were used to cook chilli. Then he cut us a sugar beat off, It teasted so good and fresh! (oh and we tasted passionfruit straight from the tree! We did so much) Finally we arrived at a little creek and we all jumped in to cool down, it was awesum!
This has been the best two days so far of the trip it had everything and i really want to come back to Chiang Mai in the future to do alonger trekk through the jungle, i loved it so much!
Next stop Bangkok before moving on to Pucket!
