Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Monday + Tuesday
Early start to head for the train to KL. Long journey, arrived in KL Train station for a 4 hour stop, tempted to get a train into KL central, but worried we'd miss our connection. So after a long a boring wait (nothing to do in KL station), we boarded the train to Hat Yai. We had a little room with bunk beds, so managed to get a little bit of shut eye, but I woke at about 2am and stayed wide awake for the remaining journey, since I was crapping myself about going off the rails. I genuinely didn't think we would make it to Thailand. We obviously had to cross the border, and due to all of the Political tension there, as Gappers, we were always advised to fly over the border instead of crossing by train or bus. So I was convinced we were gona be bombed of the rails, or just crash since the driver was a maniac and we were rocking from side to side a tad more than usual. Twas a nasty journey. We had to stop at the border to get our passports checked and visas issued. Met a couple of Irish girls, who were quite chatty. One had just been on an 'adrenaline tour' to South Africa and done stuff like 'cage diving' with Great White sharks- bonkers. But I'd love to do that tour!
Finally, after an exceedingly long journey, found ourselves in Hat Yai train station, being bombarded by every Thai Tuk Tuk driver possible. Think this may have freaked Darren out, since Asian salesman techniques are decidedly 'in your face'. However, he was very cool and calm and seemed less peed than me. Finally got ourselves a Tuk Tuk with the 2 Irish girls and booked a bus to Krabi. Waited in the small, dingy town of Hat Yai for an hour or so, got some 'noodle soup', then set out in an 'air con'- my ass! mini bus. Finally reached Krabi and had to order another taxi to get to the hotel we had previously booked. The 2 girls joined us and booked themselves in as well.
Felt soo good to finally dump our bags and collapse on a comfy bed. Had been an exceedingly long journey- 2 full days of travel to reach our destination- crazy! We had a nice dip in the gorgeous pool- a bit chilly for my liking though! We got a free ride to Au Nang strip to have a yummy Italian meal and check out the touristy stalls lined up, before heading back to watch a film and hit the hay.
