Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Wed
Early breakfast and after much confusion as to what bus we were to get on, we set off for Koh Chang. After the 6 hour bus ride, we stopped of for a bite to eat, witnessed a poor guy throw a wobbly, cause his bags had been lost along the way, then boarded a teeny boat with millions of people in it, to take us to the island. Funny- we were told we'd arrive at 2pm, and finally got there as it was beginning to get dark, typical. Once on land, we hitched a ride to the 'supposed' best beach on the island. Arrived to find it was pretty nice, but accommodation was a bit nasty. Had to kip there for one night though since it was getting late. After a very restless sleep, due to nightmare issues, we packed up and set off for the backpacker hangout, "Lonely Beach". We managed to flag down a taxi to get there, found an internet café and dumped out bags there until we found accommodation. On Lonely beach, there's an awesome hostel called "The Treehouse" and it's like a famous haven throughout the backpacking community. It's so popular in fact there's an exceptionally long waiting list to get one of the basic bungalows (not even with a fan). But walking past it, it was obvious why it was so popular. Twas absolute paradise- if your idea of paradise is hanging around in a hammock, reading a book, while the waves crash on 3 sides of you. There's a little wooden pier that juts out into the sea where people were sat with their legs dangling over, just soaking up the atmosphere. Was such a chilled out place, bean bags everywhere, little fairy lights, candles, a literal tree house on the water. They've opened up a replica on the other side of the island due to the popularity. Buut, although it looked awesome, it was all booked up and due to the over whelming heat and exhaustion from lugging our ridiculously heavy packs around, we decided to try and find air con. In the end, we gave in to the one and only accommodation providing such a necessity as air con and it was indeed a swanky hotel on the beach. It had THE most awesome pool- on like 3 levels, with stone sun beds jutting in to the water, and a marble fountain running from one pool to the other which we doubled as a great slide! The room was gorgeous and we had our own friggin garden in the bathroom! (a breeding group for mozzies though I'm sure). The shower was big enough for about 4 people and we had astro- score. Felt so so relieved to be in nice accommodation again, although I would've loved it if we'd got a spot at the "Treehouse". We were literally right on the beach, twas idyllic. Chilled by the pool and read our books for the rest of the day. Knacked pretty early on, so got some room service and an early night.
