I survived my first class!!!! I took the class yesterday evening and it actually went really well. I had to teach a class of 12 (as 2 didn't turn up) 3 and 4 year olds. They were absolutely adorable! I walked into the classroom and they all just looked at me like I was an alien, apart from one little boy who instantly wanted a hug- bless. The class was exhausting but I successfully got them singing row row row your boat and twinkle twinkle little star. I tried to find out their names but because of their pronunciation could only understand 3 of them- Oscar, Cassie and Richard (hhaaa). They were a lot more advanced with their english than I had been told and was embarrassed when trying to teach them the numbers 1 to 4, the majority of them rattled off the numbers 1 - 15. Ooops... will know next time lol. My stickers were a huge hit- 1 glimpse of some stickers and the kids were instantly attached to my limbs. I'm no soft touch and made each kid answer a question before they got a sticker. It was hard to keep track of who had had a sticker so I had to just look at their jumpers. One little kid (the cuddly one) came up to me looking sad pointing at his stickerless jumper. I felt bad, asked him a question and gave him a sticker. 2 seconds later another kid ran up to me yelling at me in chinese. I asked my assistant what was wrong and she pointed at the cuddly kid and told me that he had two stickers. Little monster had hidden his sticker from me. I was suddenly bombarded with 11 kids all screaming "TWO STICKERS" at me. I didn't have enough stickers for 2 each so I went up to the mini sticker thief, made a sad face and told him he could only have one sticker. He looked up at me with his big brown eyes and handed me back the purple sticker. In hindsight I think that he probably just didn't like the colour purple lol. Another thing that entertained me was that the kids have clearly been learning colours. I had made a stop sign (big red circle) as an indication to the kids that they needed to stop and pay attention. However, whenever I held it up they just screamed (RRREEEEDD) and when I held up my yellow ball to start a game they just screamed (YYEEELLLOOW). It was impressive but not quite what I had had in mind lol. At the end of the lesson many of the kids wouldn't leave the classroom and wanted to stay and hug me so I was chuffed. One little boy refused to come out from under the table so I just left that to the assistant's as I did not know the chinese for "if you don't come out we will lock you in and the monsters will get you". Short blog today but have to prepare for my 2 lessons this evening. They are slightly older today, 6 - 7 years old so I am probably more nervous than I was yesterday, plus my first class is being observed by my boss Dave today- eeeek. I hope it goes as well as yesterdays!
