Norway - day eleven
Well, we are sitting in the queue for our ferry from Norway to Denmark. We have had another lovely day with Sofie. We had a late morning. Mum and dad skyped the Maules and Andrew and I face timed the Yates. It was lovely to speak to people at home.
On our way into town we stopped at the grocery store to buy stuff for the ferry then it was onto a lookout to see Oslo. It is quite a large city and there are some really beautiful modern buildings. We then drove in and parked the car at the stena line terminal and went off exploring.
First we went to the opera house, went inside and then climbed up onto the roof. It is an impressive building, all clad in white marble. Inside, the outside walls were this funky diamond cutout pattern and the internal ways were all timber. Hard to explain but quite effective. Outside the roof sloped up from the ground so people could walk up and around. There was a beautiful view of the fjord and then back over the city.
From there we walked more into town and explored different things -the national theatre and the fortress. We saw the Nobel prize building and museum but were pressed for time and money so didn't go through it (and its Monday and most museums were closed). We also saw the Parliament House and were given a number of freebies. Mum got given a red rose and we could have each taken ear plugs. Their election is coming up and the parties were all out on the streets trying to convince people with objects. We were later given 2 packets of noodles each and Sofie said sometimes they do give samples to try and promote products but she was quite surprised at the noodles and said they would probably cost 50NOK each. We'll be set for dinners/lunches for a few days now.
We enjoyed yummy Thai for dinner, sitting in the car waiting for the ferry check in to begin. So now we just wait. It is 6pm but we don't leave until 7:30. Not sure when we'll board.
