Ribe, Denmark
We have seen so many different forms of Power.....solar farms, wind farms, coal....even a nuclear power plant in Poland.
We have spent a lot of the day on the autobahn/autohof so that we could get up to Denmark. We got our traditional boarder photos, one of the country boarder and the other of the speed changes.
The wild flowers on the side of the road are really beautiful. We arrived in Ribe, pronounced Reebe, a few minutes after 4:00pm so had some time to look around the old church that dated back to the 12th Century. We climbed the 247 steps to the top, a third spiral and another third narrow, steep steps and came out to find a beautiful view. I admired it from the seat in the middle as it was quite windy and going near the edge made my legs go all jelly.
Mum got chatting to a gentleman who told us about a recent excavation where they uncovered a brick wall from the 1100's. they also found bones of people in Christian burial (can't remember how he explained it). He was very excited about it because they've been carbon dated etc. he asked where we are from, as lots of people in Denmark (thus far) have done. He then told us that he was the museum director so it all made sense.
We've just gotten back from doing the night watch mans tour. It was really interesting. He told us about the different houses and the things that have happened to the town over the centuries.
It is quite cool (weather wise) and we are all rugging up. It's easy to pick the tourists and the locals. The locals are out buying boogy boards and wearing t-shirts and the tourists are all in winter gear.
Ribe is a very beautiful town and the hostel is very nice. Heading for Norway tomorrow via the Jelling (pronounced Yelling) stones.
