Denmark to Norway
I am writing this on the ferry from Denmark to Norway. There isn't much to look at, just flat ocean. It's been raining since breakfast but the sea is surprisingly calm.
Denmark has been simply beautiful. Wild flowers, wheat fields and wind turbines.
Most of the houses are made of red brick and have been for centuries. It makes them quite striking and vastly different to all others we have seen.
On our drive to the ferry we stopped at Jelling (pronounced Yelling) to see the Jelling stones. They are huge rocks, the first was raised by King Gorm to honour his wife and the second by his son Harold Bluetooth to honour King Gorm celebrating his conquest of Denmark and Norway and his conversion of the Danes to Christianity.
Side note: you know Bluetooth that we all use to connect our devices or our phones to our car, it is named after Harold Bluetooth and the symbol is actually the Nordic symbols for H and B (overlapping).
The stones show the image of Christ, arms splayed to look like He is on the cross. We then headed to a museum in another small town. It wasn't so small but everything after Berlin feels small. There we saw two bogbodies. A man and a woman from xxx
They had been sacrificed to the Gods and buried in the bog, hence the name bogbody. The man was perfectly preserved. You could see his hat and belt and even the rope around his neck (hanging was the way they sacrificed the people).
Oow....there is a bit of a sway up now. Hard to stay standing upright. We are in the back row right next to the door and its constant slamming is giving us all headaches so I'm attempting to stand, type and use my foot to stop the door from slamming. It is working, though somewhat of a workout trying to balance.
Mum and I have just looked thought the duty free shop. Everyone appears to be stocking up on lollies, chocolate and drinks (alcoholic and soft drink) so we wanted to find out why. It seems a little cheaper than in Australia. Now we are worried that things will be quite expensive in Norway. Oh well, all part and parcel of holidays.
I think I'll leave it there for now. We will be heading for our cars soon.
Just for interest sake...we have driven 5000km in 3 and a half weeks....oh and the price of diesel in Norway is AU$3.
Norway
It is 9:20pm and we are stopped in a car park.....lost. Nelly took us on a MASSIVE detour along a single lane (but 2-way) road just because we hadn't selected with toll. We drove up hills with dogleg bends and Andrew even had to overtake....now that was interesting.
The countryside is vastly different to Denmark. Rocky hills, tunnels and lakes everywhere.
10:00pm and we are inside semi-sorted. Although we don't have the password for the Internet so I can't upload this anyway.
