So, lets be honest, we haven't been very good at updating the blog entries! 2 reasons: it takes ages and is too expensive to do in internet cafes so have to wait for wifi and the second is we dont have time, we are just too busy relaxing and enjoying not being in uk! ;) Miss everyone really! Well i am now sitting in Zest (best coffee shop ever) and they have a free pc so i thought that i would make the most of it and update...
The last blog we wrote was from when we were first in Bangkok, 6 weeks ago now! I cant believe how quickly the time here in Thailand has gone, before we know it weeks have gone past and we havent noticed. we rarely even know what day it is, its lovely!
We spent 4 nights in Bangkok then headed to Chiang Mai on the night Train! That was interesting! It took forever but we managed to get a little sleep until the train stopped and you got thrown forward. The sleeper beds were ok, well mine was! I had the bottom one and it was huge, Min had the top bunk and it was tiny, all that was stopping him from falling out was 2 little straps from the celing to the bed! We finally arrived in Chaing Mai after the 14 hour train journey and got took to our guest house, the BMP. We werent starting the trek until the next day so we had time to catch up on some sleep. We have found in Thailand you either sleep loads or only a couple of hours either way you still feel tired! We had to go to a meeting later on in the day about the trek, they told us what we need to take and gave us a clear plastic bag to put inside our own bags to stop everything getting wet, it is monsoon season after all! The next day we woke up early and got ready for the trek, what had we let our selves in for??
We got into the truck there was me and Min and 3 german girls and a spanish family. we headed to the market where we could buy anything that we didnt have for the trek. The markets here are amazing, so many different kinds of foods, different smells fill they air, some good others not so!! We then headed to the elephant camp where we would ride the elephants! It was amazing although it was so hard to stay on the seat, min sat on the head and said it was so much easier to sit there. We had a little baby with our group and he was so cute, he just kept falling over and playing in the trees very sweet. After the elephant trek we could feed the elephants and they took bananas out of our hands, very cute until i stood next to a baby one for a photo, when he swooped round and headbutted me in the chest and sent me flying, I was ok though i didnt get hurt or anything! It was after this that we began the trek, and my god was it hard work! trekking throught the jungle in the humid heat sweating buckets trying to fight off the bugs and trying to drink enough so we didnt get dehydrated. we trekked for a few hours through jungle and padi fields until we got to the most amazing waterfall, where we could just swim and chill out, the water was freezing but so refreshing after the walking! We had to continue on tho we werent done for the day. We continue to trek through the jungle when we were near the village that we were staying in we went past a school where there were children palying football. As we got into the village there were so many dogs (ARRRGGGHHHHH!) and this is where we saw the huge spiders, they were as big as your hands but luckily they were high up in the trees! (phew!) We got to our village and chilled out, it was nice to stop walking! Its very basic in the village, no electricy so only cold showers, they grow there own food and the women ask the men to marry them!! They cooked dinner for us in the village and it was probably the best food we have eaten in Thailand! I nearly got locked in the toilet here as well, it was dark so i had my torch and when i went to leave the squat toilet there was the biggest spider on the door, OMG i didnt know what to do, i stood there for about 5 mins before quickly pushing the door and running as fast as i could back up the hill to the house! the most scariest moment ever, i thought that i was going to have to sleep in the toilet!! Sleeping in the jungle was the noisest night ever, insects making their sounds and dogs barking and the rain on the bamboo roof!
We woke up early the next day to have breakfast before more trekking for the day. we trekked for about 4 hours back through the jungle but a different way, it was easier on the way back. Once we had finished the trek it was time for bamboo rafting but because it had rained so much last night we couldnt do the whole time on the raft so we only got about 20mins, but that was plenty for me! it was good fun tho! We then got took back to the BMP and chilled out in the pool, lovely!
So thats all from the trek (well basics what i can remember, it was over a month ago now!) and it is lovely and hot outside so i am going to go and enjoy the beach and the sun for the rest of the day.
Miss everyone and thinks you should all come to thailand and enjoy this amazing country with us.
