Sorry it's been awhile for my next entry, just been so busy!!
So i left Sydney & headed off on my first Oz Experience bus. Was rather nervous having to leave Sydney & Bondi as i felt really at home there. Anyway had to be in the city at 6:15 not happy at all about that, so i was shattered & looked like god knows what. My driver Chris aka Hoodie, all the drivers have nicknames, was cool had a laugh with him.
Left for Mojo Surf Camp, took about 8 hours to get there so the day dragged big time. We stopped off at certain places for rest stops. Arrived at the Surf camp around 5:30, checked in & i ended up staying in a tipee tent with a couple of Brazilians i met on the bus. Was very interesting i must say staying in there. Had nowhere to PLUG MY HAIRSTRAIGHTNERS!!!! Joking i'm not that bad :)) We all got refreshed & all headed for a massive dinner, there was about 130 of us as there were other buses. The food was very good, had like mexican food etc..Everyone was drinking & we all headed for the beach. They took a massive stereo down so we had music. We were all drinking & the night was awesome. Met some great people that night but was very messy.
Didn't get back till 5:30am & the surfer guys were going to wake us up at 6:30 so i got 1hr sleep. Got woken up nice & loud, managed to hold down my breakfast then we had to go & surf. Surfing when hungover is soooooooooo demanding. I had no energy but still gave it my best shot. I stood up twice which i was very proud of!! I got up half way most the time but then that was it. It is really hard, when you watch the guys out there they make it look so easy. I got wacked in the face by my surf board so had a cut on my cheek :(( Silly me didn't wear a wetsuit, only wore my bikini & a t-shirt. So i got bruises all over my knees & got a horrible rash all on my knees too. Was worth it!!
So we left there Sunday morning around 11am & headed to Byron Bay. Had a couple of people mention to me about my crazy night before, just had to put my head down!! Got to Byron about 3pm. Met up with Claire again who i met in Sydney so it was great to catch up with her. Also met her friend Sharon who she got to know on the bus aswell.
Shared an apartment with a Toni & Dave who were both Scottish & who i met on the bus. They were fun. The place we stayed Holiday Village Backpackers was really good & central. Had its own pool too. Was nice to have our own bathroom & kitchen for once. Also the apartment we stayed in was also the place where the OzExperience bus drivers came to to stop over, so we got meet most of them. The stories i got told!!
Had alot of crazy nights in Byron. Went to Cheeky monkeys which is the main Backpackers bar where everyone goes. I went about 3 times & that was enough. So cheesy. We mainly went to The Beach Hotel, was really nice bar next to the beach. They had live bands playing in there too.
The build up to Xmas was weird as they just don't celebrate it like us Brits. Nowhere played xmas songs, apart from xmas eve in Cheeky's. So thats where i spent xmas eve & it was a great night, think the pic shows that.
Xmas day was bizarre to say the least. Did not feel like Xmas at all. Had 3 cards to open from my Dad, Grandma & Aunty & i put them on our window sill. Met Claire & Sharon & we went ot the beach to have a bbq. Wore our santa hats with our bikinis so crazy. It just felt like another day on the beach, was not the same being back home in the cold. Had some cold beers & just chilled out in the evening. They actually played National Lapoons Xmas Vacation on tv so we watched that, made us abit more festive.
Claire left before New Year with Sharon, they went to Brisbane. Day before New Years me & Toni went to Nimban, very very interesting. Its the place where you can get as many space cookies as you want. They offer it to you left, right & centre. Its such a tiny, tiny town but cool to go. Had great little tiny shops that sales anything & i mean anything.
News Years Eve me & Toni had drinks at our place then we went to the beach for the countdown. It was raining so badly but who cares!!!!! On the beach they had a fair & live music, they had lazer lights everywhere. Was a wicked night glad i spent it in Byron.
Byron bay is the most laid back place i've been to so far, it's so worth spending time there. The people were great.
