Before we crossed the border we knew Bhutan would be something special. We entered Bhutan the same day as the royal wedding in Britain, but unfortunately (especially for those from Britain) we couldn't escape it completely even here. At the border we got a new guide, Thinley. Who, as our last guide, turned out to be pretty great! He took us to different places and many(more!!) forts and monastries, but these were quite different from what we've seen before, the national archery finals and hiking. He also invited us home to drink home made wine, which wasn't wine in our oppinion but that's beside the point, and we got to meet part of his family.
The last day we were suppose to go hiking to Tiger's Nest, which is the biggest attraction in Bhutan. But the few days before it had been raining and Thinley said we couldn't go if it would be the same weather. So almost everyone in the group bought some monk-blessed "threads" to have around our neck for good luck and asked for good weather. The next day it wasn't a cloud on the sky, and it was a perfect day for a hike. Tiger's Nest was absolutely great, and when we were up there we discovered a rainbow circle around the sun. Maybe it doesn't sound so special when we write it here, but that in addition to some other happenings just gave us chills...
The atmosphere, the relaxed and welcoming people and the beautiful landscape (which partly reminded us of Norway) and some specific events made this a really special experience. It's hard to explain.
The short week we spent there went by way to fast, and it was a little shock to come to India..
