So I caught the bus from Costa Rica down to David in Panama. a pretty long trip, but comfortable seats so that helped. I also bumped into a guy I had previously met in Costa Rica... so it is always good to have a fellow traveller on board with you.
I loved Costa Rica, as I have every other place I have visited so far, it is beautiful. Amazing beaches, forests and wildlife. The down side was that it was a lot more expensive than the other countries and more touristy...lots of Americans on vacation. It is amazing the difference you notice in the countries...and how much wealthier Costa Rica is...the infrastructure is way better than the other countries, the driving and the transport is better...however I kind of prefer the fact that the other countries where not as developed.
Costa Rica has no military, so it was strange crossing the border into Panama where there were military personnel everywhere. So far Panama has been the most strict border to cross...they were asking everyone for proof of return tickets out of the country....which I don't have and somehow got away with it. Everyone else who did not have one had to go and buy a ticket from the bus driver. They also only gave me a 30 day visa...so I will have to get out of here by the end of the month.
On the bus I also met 2 girls from Iceland and we ended up going to the same hostel in David, called the purple house...and the house is definitely purple as is everything, and I mean everything, inside! After 2 days I had certainly had enough of purple, especially seeing it rained non stop so we were stuck inside for a lot of the time! The woman running it was not very nice and she had a very annoying dog that kept s***ting in the house! On the upside, the people I met there were great.
Although there is nothing to do in David and it did not help with the rain, a few of us went to a concert on the Saturday night. The concert was in aid of all the floods in Bocas and was supposedly the most popular band in Panama....Sandra and Sammy or something like that. It was $3 for the girls to get in and $6 for the guys (????). Of course we were the only white people about, but beers where about 50c. Of course, being the only gringos, we created a bit of attention and had a mad fisherman in an Hawaiian top and a very persistent midget (well almost) talking to us or rather trying to get us to dance with them. We thought we would be able to act ignorant and pretend not to understand Spanish, but that certainly did not help.....there was lots of actions going on (from the midget in particular) and this did not stop for at least an hour or two.
After 2 days in David, we had had enough rain, so me along with the 2 girls from Iceland decided to head to a beach on the Pacific Coast.
