So I left Montezuma on a speed boat from the beach in front of the hostel...it was one wet ride. I was however very distracted the whole way there by the guy sitting next to me who had taken his shoes off and had the most revolting LONG LONG big toenails....Alison and Anna, I thought of you, you would have either been in hysterics or vomiting (not sure which one)....I was amazed that someone could be not cut their toenails when they were THAT long...surely they would make holes in his shoes, or maybe he brought shoes a size bigger. But he also seemed to have some disease on this feet...so maybe that had something to do with it. I know I should not judge people, but honestly those feet should not come out in public!!!
Anyway we were dropped at a beach on the other side, had to catch a cab to Jaco and then a bus to Quepos. The bus was of course packed and it was about 100 degrees and I stood most of the one and half hours there....I should have taken that taxi ride I was offered for US$20!! But I arrived in Quepos at a really nice hostel run by a kiwi woman and her English husband and 1st thing I did was go for a swim in the gorgeous swimming pool they had.
I ended up spending about 3 and half days in Quepos. It is a 15 min bus ride from Manual Antonia. It is pretty touristy, full of Americans on vacation. It was kind of strange being back in such a touristy place (reminded me of Mexico). They have a national park there, so one day I spent the day walking through the park and hanging out of the beaches in the park which were just beautiful! Nothing quite like sitting on a white beach, clear blue water and jungle behind you with howler monkeys barking! Although the park was pretty busy, I actually got to see some animals (unlike the cloud forest). I saw howler monkeys and certainly heard them, as well as a few sloths, iguanas on the beach and a few other strange creatures.
Mostly I spent time on the beach or by the pool or hanging out with other people in the hostel while I contemplated my next destination. All I want to do is head to the Caribbean coast, but there have been such heavy rains all along the coast and in Panama and there are floods, roads closed, and bridges down! After calling the hostel in Puerto Viejo and checking the Internet regularly I decided to bite the bullet and head to the Caribbean....surely it has to stop raining at some stage. So this morning I took a 4 hour bus ride back to San Jose thinking that tomorrow I will head to the Carribean. Anyway I arrived at the hostel in San Jose today to be told the shuttles are not running because the roads are still so bad and the border I would have crossed, if I went to Caribbean, is closed......I cannot believe I have just come 4 hours to San Jose and now tomorrow I have to head back down......a 9 hour bus ride tomorrow to Panama! What a complete waste of a day...aaaaagh! Oh well I am in quite a nice hostel so I will chill out tonight and catch that early morning bus!
oooohh...just figured out the benefit of coming back to San Jose.....I got to have a hot shower...what a luxury!!!
