A pretty long day getting to Montezuma from Monteverde, but well worth it. It was certainly good to be back in the sunshine and shed some of those clothes (which were almost walking on their own by now anyway).
The minute I arrived in Montezuma I knew I would love it! I was almost dying of heat so I did not check out too many hostels and picked one of the 1st I saw. It was literally ON the beach....what more could I ask for. Well, I probably could ask for a little more as the room I was shown was pretty bad...in fact I think it was the closet! But it was hot, I was tired and this place was ON the beach so I just said yes to the room, thinking I would change the next day! As it turned out, I put up with the closet and the somewhat strange smell of the place....not only the constant smell of dope! (toilets and showers where pretty bad) as it was so nice when you were hanging around outdoors, on the beach or in the hammocks...and to be honest that is were I spent most my time anyway! Some of the people staying there were sleeping in hammocks...maybe that would have been fun! The guy who owned the place was completely mad....but in a funny way...think way too many years of drugs and alcohol!
I bumped into 2 Spanish guys I had met in Monteverde )initially I thought they were a bit odd...but they were pretty nice guys in the end) They had met up with another Italian guy ...so I ended up spending some time with them, even although they mostly spoke a mixture of Spanish and Italian....and the odd English thrown in! Funnily enough the Italian guy had spent heaps of time in NZ and the Pacific Islands and was covered in Maori tattoos
Montezuma is small and charming! Some nice restaurants and great beach backed with jungle. I was woken up by Howler monkeys very early in the morning! I spent most of my days lazing on the beach, reading and eating....sound familiar! It was fantastic!
I spent about 2 - 3 days here and then decided to head onto Manual Antonia....although in hindsight I should have stayed a bit longer....
