Okay....so sorry for the delay in updating my blog...I have been a little preoccupied in Seattle....a slight detour in the trip! In fact it has been so long since I updated this I had to use google to help me remember where I was after Cartagena! So now that I remember...I caught a bus to a little fishing village called Taganga on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. I managed to get a bed in a dorm in a hostel right on the beach, despite it being so close to Xmas, so I was very happy! It was perfect...with amazing views of the ocean and I literally had to roll out of bed and I could be on the beach....which was a perfect end to my trip! Taganga was a great little village with a bit of a hippy feel to it with lots of restaurants etc on the beach
I met a few Colombians (it seems a lot of people from Bogota come here on vacation) and some other travellers, and one of the Colombian girls organised a dinner on the beach for Christmas eve which was great! Despite the wind nearly blowing all the food and decorations away. Xmas day was spent lazing on the beach in the sun. The weather was amazing the entire time I was there.
Most days where spent on the beach working on my tan (which I have subsequently lost since being in Seattle). Xmas night I went with 2 kiwi guys I met, to a dinner and all you can drink party with a live band. Unfortunately I was pretty exhausted (from doing not much all day) so I did not make the most of all you can drink. Other than being lazy, one day I did head to the near by national park with an American guy and 2 Aussies. Tayrona (the national park) is just beautiful...I will up load photos soon). We had to walk almost an hour though the jungle and then came to the most beautiful beaches. We walked for about another hour past a number of beaches until the last one which was the most gorgeous one and we spent a few hours there.
Although I only saw a very small part of Colombia, it is an amazing country and despite what people think, it appears to be relatively safe and the people are probably the friendliest I have met on this trip. To the point where the taxi driver gave me a hug and kiss goodbye (and it was not weird) They are truly lovely people.
On the 27 December (I think) I flew to Bogota, the Capital of Colombia and spend one night in a hostel before heading to Seattle. I was a little nervous going to Bogota, especially seeing I had to catch a cab at 4am in the morning to the airport, but it was absolutely fine.
I am pretty impressed that I did not get anything stolen or lost on this trip and did not get seriously sick either.
I flew from Bogota to Mexico City and then onto Seattle. It was so strange flying back over Central America. The flight was about 4-5 hours and it was strange to think I had made my way down in 4-5 months and now I was leaving. I must say I was pretty sad.
This trip has been the most amazing journey. I have been so blessed to have had such an incredible time and learnt so much. I just cannot find the words to describe it and I am so so sad it is coming to an end....thank you everyone for keeping in touch and I look forward to catching up with you all very soon. xx
