Kim's Travels
What a cool day... First of all we said our goodbyes to Tom's family who had been looking after us for the past few days and made our way back to Flagstaff station, to our hostel. After sorting out lots of boring admin-y stuff we were picked up for our 'day trip' (sound like OAP's - it wasn't!) First stop was Gurdies Winery where we got to taste their unique wine (2 white, 2 red, 1 port, 1 sweet), then we kinda hung out in the vinyards which was kinda cool coz it was just green EVERYWHERE and really pretty. Second stop was another animal sanctury-place where, again, we saw koala's, wombats, wallabies and kangaroo's (and a crocodile) but THIS TIME, we got to spend time in the field with them feeding them (the kangaroo's). They were really friendly (despite the seriously sharp claws) and ate out of my hand for ages. A few of them were very tiny and cute but there were some which were HUGE, as in like as tall as me. It was definatly a highlight and possibly one of the best things I've done since I've been in Oz. Third and finally we went to Philip Island (our actual destination) where we sat on the beach (in the freezing cold) waiting to see the 'Little Penguins' (they're actually called that) to come out of the ocean. They are tiny little penguins, about 40cm high and about 300 of them come out at dusk everynight. It was really special to see them all waddle past us making their weird noises! We were so so close (less than a metre) and we followed them up to see them get to their burrows. Unfortunatly we couldnt take piccies as the flash damages their delicate eyes but it was amazing all the same. The journey home was quite long, but not as long as tomorrow's 13 hours journey to Sydney so its beauty sleep time for me... Night night xxx
