Family
Over the past two days, Sarah and I caught up with family. We tried on Saturday morning to see my nan who is in her 80's - I thought we'd have a fair chance of findng her at home - nope, she popped up to the shops for a browse and to get a few bits! By the time she got home and found our note, we had just returned to the hotel. Plans were made to catch up before we left.
Saturday afternoon we caught up with my aunt Chrissie and popped around to see my Grandparents and Sarah's great grandparents (who she had never met) on my dads side. Instead of not enough family at my nan's we had more than we bargained for there with Aunt Eve and her son Colin being there too! We spent a lovely couple of hours catching up and meeting. Chrissie then took us out to dinner which was a lovely buffet with the biggest Yorkshire Puddings Sarah and I had ever seen!
Now, an admission - I have been taking photos of anything that moves, we have photos of things I can't even remember taking - so why with three generations in the room did I not take out my camera??? No idea, clearly I am an idiot! I thought about it in the car and said to Chrissie that I couldn't believe my stupidity and then STILL didn't take any pictures of Chrissie!!!!!!!!! I'm writing this blog some days later and am still so angry with myself.
Sunday took us to Chelmsford, to visit with my godmother. No such mistakes this time - I took photos of them all, sent Sarah off with the camera and my second cousins daughter had some picture time too!
Let;s see if I can get this right. Carol is my mum's cousin and she and her husband Paul are also my godparents. They have two children, Michaela who is slightly younger than me and Charlotte who is slightly older than Claire. Michaela is married to Mick and they have two daughters - Ruby who is nearly 13 and Katie who is 6. Ruby and Sarah hit it off almost instantly and followed each other around all day. Charlotte is married to John and they've just had their third boy. Oldest is Oscar 6, then Luc 2 and most recently Samuel 2 weeks! Pictured are Michaela, Ruby, Katie and little Samuel.
So the whole family gathered and it was the loveliest afternoon. Spent some time at a pub called The Green Man that had a wonderful garden for the kids and then went back to Charlotte's house where the kids played in a different garden. It was lovely to see them all and I can't believe that Michaela and I just fell right back into it even though we haven't seen each other for 20 years. Watching Ruby and Sarah was just like Michaela and I all those years ago when we were kids!
Can't wait for them to come and visit!!
