The Wizard of Oz
This little piece isn't worth a whole blog entry but Sarah and I took in a West end show last night. We saw The Wizard of Oz which had some amazing visual effects along with the expected brilliant actors and singers. We saw the show at the world famous London Palladium and were surprised to see that Toto was a real dog, and a Westie no less. It was well fed with treats provided from all the actors throughout and certainly stole the show for us both!
Buckingham Palace
Believe it or not, I have never been to Buckingham Palace! We set off on a day that threatened to bucket down (check the sky in some of the pictures) but didn't which was a nice change from all the days it's taken us by surprise! The changing of the guard was a great spectacle and they also play some popular tunes after the guard change so it's a real show. I'm assuming that the Queen does get sick of her band playing 'Staying Alive' though!
On our way from the train station, Sarah saw her first squirrels in Green Park and thought they were quite cute! We wandered around amidst hundreds if not thousands of people and clearly the Queen couldn't find us because she didn't invite us in for tea. Despite so many people all clamouring for a look there were no grumpy people and it was great to be able to see the balcony where all those famous waves and kisses have been seen. It certainly puts into perspective how many people must fit into the mall on occasions such as Wills & Kate's wedding.
I was a bit surprised to see planes flying over the palace including a helicopter that hovered across the square from the Palace for ages, I assume it was a sightseeing one but you'd think with all the threats, it would be protected airspace or something. I'm sure aircraft wouldn't get that close to Barack's house!
The evening saw a dip in the hotel pool which was quite nice and a great end to the day.
