The Trip to Roma
The flight from Melbourne to Dubai was good. We had great seats, a row of two almost at the rear of the plane (no toilet smells for those that predicted it!). The only downside really is how long it took to get off the plane when we landed but we had nowhere to be so all was fine! Interesting character behind us - shared his flying tips with me, apparently the best way to make it through a long flight is 10 whiskey's - you may think I'm exaggerating but he then proudly informed me that he was up to number 5 already! Given his snoring shortly before we landed in Dubai - I can only assume he hit his quota!!
We spent a lazy 5 hours in Dubai airport, we kept walking and the terminal kept going. This was to prove useful later as we had been given the wrong gate number and had to bolt from gate 125 to gate 230. All ended well though as the plane had been given the wrong gate number too and was about 20 minutes late!!
It was interesting to see when we got to Rome the stark contrast between Dubai airport and Rome airport, clearly Rome has been around a lot longer!! Took a bus into the Termini Station and had our first experience of mad Italian driving - Nic & E - cannot believe you drove here.
Found the hotel, hidden behind huge wooden doors, across a courtyard and in an elevator that's been around about as long as the Trevi fountain. It's one of those ancient ones with the outer and inner doors that you see in old movies - absolutely wonderful.
My beautiful Sarah has been amazing through it all, lots of new experiences, my really bad attempts at Italian and did I mention a VERY OLD elevator!
The picture for today is Sarah in the entranceway to our hotel (between the wooden doors, the gate, the security elevator and the swipe card entrance to the hotel and the room, we're incredibly safe Dad. Hotel is a 5 room boutique hotel (who knew!) and is very pretty.

Natalie Brown Congratulations on your first blog Kim and Sarah! It's great to hear you arrived safely and are enjoying the local Roma culture. If you have time, try and catch the double decker bus which takes you to all the top tourist spots, saves all the walking in the heat. Have fun and we look forward to reading about the next 6 weeks of your travels. Don’t forget to blow the Pope a kiss for me! Ciao xxxxx
