Paris. The city of love, a fashion mecca, full of art and culture, and one of the most densely populated metroploitan areas in Europe. Matt and I were fortunate enough to spend 2 days in Paris after our stint in Venice, and personally I really liked Paris and am glad that we had a change of plan and were able to stay there for a few days.
After Veince we had a quick stop in Nice and then headed to Bordeaux, as we had originally planned to be there for a few days. However we had a hiccup with our accommodation so went straight to Paris instead at the last minute, and I'm so happy we did! On the Friday we arrived we went to the Louvre in the evening and it was amazing, I saw all the scupltures and paintings I studied in Art History and Classics at school, and got a picture with my favourite sculpture 'Cupid and Psyche' which was a highlight. The Mona Lisa was pretty small and disappointing, but I was prepared for that as my lonely planet had said that the Mona Lisa in real life can often invoke comments such as 'is that it?'. We went for a walk and saw the Eiffel tower by night (which made for much more beautiful photos), and as it was raining that night, the Louvre and the Tower were both not very busy!
The following day we went to the flea market, which was really good! We saw alot of things we would have liked to have taken back with us, but backpacking is not the time to be buying anything, especially furniture or things for the house! We also took a bus all around the city, saw the Notre Dame cathedrial (no sign of Quasimodo) and the Arc De Triumph. The camera memory card was filled up quite a bit in Paris!
I can't remember if I've mentioned this before in my postings, but the one thing that Matt and I have noticed and talked about quite a bit on this trip is how the infrastructure in every country is so much better than that in NZ. Even small towns have great public transport systems, easy to use and efficient. I'm just baffled as to why this isn't happening at home! Imagine how much more 'green' NZ could be if noone needed to use cars to get everywhere! (However at this point I must say that if it wasn't for Matt on this trip I would probably still be lost somewhere in Russia. I have discovered that my ability to read maps and ride the metro/bus systems is actually alot worse than I originally thought. More than once I have got us lost so have left the important task of getting us places to the man with the internal compass!

Ahli I don't often read blogs about travel. But I gnacled through some of your 5th bullet point blogs. I love them. Thanks so much for pointing those out to me. I'm sure I will be a frequent reader now.Its funny how so much info gets passed through the net. Emails from your friends, search engines, friends of friends on facebook or myspace and now (finally for me) exploring through vox. I love it!In about 2 weeks I'm starting a new blog and won't have many readers. LOL. I'm moving out west and i'm going to capture my new life through a blog. I'd so love it if you could take a look sometime. I'll leave the site up for you once I get there! Thanks again for the fun blogs!!
