After a few days at Durmitor we set off for Croatia, and after a huge 10 hour day of travelling, made it tp Split. We had a low key first evening, explored a bit, got some fresh fruit from the market and got some sleep. The following day we met up with Roy and Freddie, our friends from NZ who have recently moved back to the UK to live, and went to pick up our yacht for a week of sailing – exciting!
The first night we stayed in Split marina as the weather was looking a bit average, had some drinks on the boat and met a few other boats of people who were there for ‘yacht week’. This is a week where about 30 boats tour around the islands, having big parties, drinking and ‘making friends’….
During the week we had beautiful weather everyday except one, but it was still warm anyway. We did lots of swimming, sailing, drank local beer and wine and ate delicious food! We visited Brac, Milna, Stari Grad, Vis, Bol, and a few other little islands. We went to an open air club one night in a place called Bol, had Jagermeister shots and danced to some pretty cool tunes, we ate at a few nice restaurants and got pretty good tans! It was a very relaxing week and we had loads of fun – I did get a bit seasick though! One afternoon we arrived into a bay where we had planned to stay for the evening, but it was really rough and the weather was expected to get worse, I was really seasick, so the captain (Roy) and the First Mate (Matt) made the call to leave late in the evening, and we had to travel back to Vis in the dark. Not ideal but better than being blown into the rocks and feeling ill! Of course there were no hiccups and the guys did a superb job of getting us back safely and carefully.
On our last night we stayed back at Split Marina, and caught the bus to a small town called Trogir. This was yet another photogenic beautiful town on the sea and we had a delicious meal and a bit of sightseeing in the cool evening. The trip was great and we were sad to see it end but time is of the essence and we still have a lot more to see!
