We sucessfully got the night bus to chiang mai. When we booked up the jungle trek they offered us "luxury" night bus. The coach pulled up and it was everything but luxury. We loaded our bags and headed for the stairs of the bus. The toilet stunk, you literally had to squeeze in to shut the door. Upstairs didnt get any better but it was comfortable siting up watching films, just awkward when we slept.
We arrived in Chiang Mai in the early hours & was picked up in a jeep thingy. The hotel that we were also told was good standard, was disgusting but me and Kel were to tired to care.
We visited the night market which was HUGE.... Had a beer with some new friends and chilled because the next day we were heading for the hills for 2 nights.
2 nights turned into 1 night..... OH MY GOD, have you ever trekked the moutains? First of all we went to ride the Elephants, this lasted for an hour or so, it poured down with rain. WOW the ride was undescribable, i'm not exagerating!! We didnt stop smiling and laughing the whole time. We had a thai man take us round, we fed the elephants their bananas to help it move, there were times though were we hit the big slopes and all i could think of was falling. Urrrgghh.
After the elephants we began the trek. It rained... So the jungle was very muddy. I was loving it and was pleased it wasn't boiling sunshine. We finally arrived at the waterfull and jumped in. That was beautiful. We had about 10 people in our group, some pros at trekking and others not (me and kel). By the time we reached the village i was thinking that the day has been the most challenging thing i've ever done. It was seriously hard and all i wanted was my bed and a massive bar of chocolate. But no, we were in a maasive shed thing, with mozzi nets, a bit of foam to lay on and a blanket. We just laughed and enjoyed ourselves. We met two girls called Sian and Sophie who were really nice, none of us could sleep so we talked about the next day and how were all looking forward to pizza and good old alcohol.
The people that look after you for the night were really drunk and come and sat with us for a while, he had us singing some crazy song. The whole experience so far was something i would tresure!
Next day we split up and 5 from our group started heading back down the mountains/jungle to bamboo rafting. I fell on my bottom twice which was quite amusing, we were all at it. Note to self - TREKING SHOES help!! not trainers haha. I was covered head to toe in mud, my hand was bleeding :-(.
We got to the bamboo's and was joined by 7 Irish girls (all friends & backpacking together) CRAZY!! they were all really nice. The rafting was hilarious, we all got soaked and nearly fell in a few times. But then right at the end all the thai guys thought it would be funny to jump up and down till eventually i fell. HAHA good times. No more walking for Kelly and Kim.
We moved on to a guesthouse which has dorms, we had a nice hot shower and sorted our war wounds before venturing out for a big fat pizza.
Moving onto Laos in the morning, for a 2 day boat ride!! Why oh why...
Not sure when were be able to update you all but will be in touch soon.
