We took a cab from the airport to arrive at the famous Khan San Road. The place is mad. In the cab we witness not a 2-3 car pile up but a whooping 11 cars.... they drive like maniacs out here!! We glanced out of the window to see a little boy behind the steering wheel, we thought surely his not sitting on his dads lap whilst he was driving..... Yes he was!! Agggghhhh the cab driver laughed as though it happens all the time?? We have also witnessed about 4 people on a mop head!!
Bangkok itself is very humid, i think we must of sweat off about a stone in weight!! Our accommodation for the past 4 nights has been ok, we made the mistake of getting a fanned room. All this achieves is blowing hot air around. Lesson learned there A/C all the way!!
We had our friends Kate and Nick join us for the first 2 nights, they helped ease us into this very different culture. Which were both still blown away by.... We went on our first tuk tuk ride to see a few temples but unfortunately we had to visit a silk shop in order to be taken around. Pain!! On our second night we hit the stripe down the famous Khan san road and decided to experience the famous 'pingpong show'. Ha ha, errrrr not really for us but i'm glad we went, definitely an eye opener. They proceeded to have a sex show as well. But we were to busy chatting to notice what was going on.
We booked a tour yesterday which took us to the floating market, the famous bridge over the river Khai and also tiger temple.
The market was fascinating, you get taken around by little boat things, you have all different stalls selling food, drinks and general tut. The ladies are so desperate to get you to by things. The experience of seeing how people survive is shocking compared to life back in the UK. There are so many market stalls everywhere constantly bothering you to buy things. We've done a little bit of bartering but still need to learn as you can get most things cheaper then they say.
The tigers were all chained up and laying down, you had a thai person to take you round, take pictures of you stroking them. We personally didn't like this and was quite keen to get moving. Tigers aren't for stroking and it's sad that they're drugged to the nines in order for people to touch them. The tiger temple was a big place with lots of animals running around. We see some dears, cows, peacocks and buffalos... As we were walking i(kim) see all the buffalos in the water, i weren't looking where i was going and managed to tred in a huge pile of buffalo poo haha. They all come charging out so me and kel hid behind the trees.... Scary mary.
Decided to take a trip to the massive shopping mall via tuk tuk and we got stranded because we didnt spend enough time in the poxy silk shop that had all clothes for men?? We managed to get a cab, got ripped off but what do we know haha!!
We have a hotel to stay in friday night, then we set out saturday to spend 2 scary nights in the jungle trekking. This includes riding the elephants, bam booing on the rivers and meeting the 'hill tribe'. Something completely different to the norm so should be good.
Having a good time generally, Bangkok is quite friendly but it's more of a stopping over for a night or 2 before travellers move on. So moving on we are!!!
