Hello Everyone
So we moved onto Laos. We started our adventure on Tuesday 9th June. We decided to take this journey by booking things up ourselves as the tour companys seemed to charge quite a bit!! We set out first thing arriving at the bus station. We were heading North to Chiang Rai then from there to Chiang Khong were we hoped to cross the boarder to Laos. Everything was going smoothly and we enjoyed the little bus rides. The sun was shining we were happy to be moving on. We knew the boarder shut at 6pm. We arrive in Chiang Khong with a mere 15 mins to get there!! We jumped on a tuk tuk and said 'Faster faster'. He went as fast as he could but we were refused entry!! We stayed in the little village and set off again the next day.
We crossed the boarder that took all of 1 minute, sorted out our visas and headed for the SLOW boat that we were told took 2 days!! Me and Kel stupidly sat near the engine so it was very noisy!! You had a little bench to sit on for the next 7 hours.... We had been wise to purchase a mini pillow. It was awful.... We stopped over in a place called Pek Beng... Hmmm nice little village, we got a room for 50baht which was really cheap, the hill we just walked up anyone could have offered us a room. All was fine we had a nice indian and went back to the room. Some random drunk guy then decides he wants to come in our bedroom, so he was pressing the handle and banging 'let me in'. Kel has done know more and grabbed her phone, i was like 'who are we actually going to call' haha. I told the guy to go away, he must of realised he was in the wrong room. The next scary thing was that the generator switched off at 10.30 pm!! After the previous fright me and Kel screamed and were both very keen to leave this little village. We caught the boat the next day and sat more at the front, it was a good move although another long day. We were both looking forward to arriving in Luang Prabang!!
Luang Prabang
What a lovely little village, so little you could walk round it within an hour or so. We stayed at a place called 'Cold Rivers'. It was run by a family who all seemed lovely people. We got our big stack of washing done we were so happy to have clean clothes!!
We hired some Bicycles for 2 days. We had great fun riding around. In Laos they don't have cycle paths, you have to ride on the roads with the moterbikes, cars and tuk tuk drivers!! I shouted to Kelly to turn left but it was to late, she continued to go straight screaming 'Kim Kim' haha i have never laughed so much.
We were enjoying our time in Laos but felt it's quite expensive compared to Thailand, they seemed to rip us tourist off but its still really cheap. Next stop was the party place Vang Vieng!!!
Vang Vieng
Like most days we have to decide what we would like for Breakfast/Lunch and also dinner. Well this particually morning, the morning we headed for Vang Vieng neither of us could decide so thought it would do us good not to eat for the next 6-7 hours?? We realised we needed to eat in order to take the Maleria tablets, but thought 'oh well were just take them'. Never again, the bus journey down , was up and down the mountains with very sharp bends. Within an hour of leaving we both felt very sick!!
Vang Vieng was party city, it had lots are restaurants/bars all played Friends, The Simpsons and Family guy. It was cool.... We went out on the Monday night and both got rather drunk, we had another curfew and had to be in for 12am!! Next day we went tubing. You basically hire a big rubber ring that takes you along the river. However they have bars at every point possible. We got chatting to some Lads and joined there group. There was a massive swing high up in the trees. I'm pleased to say me and Kel both jumped this but it took alot of convincing and many beer laos before we done it. We both hit the river hard but carried on. We had a few buckets in the bars and met loads of drunken people, we had to drop the tube off for six so we never made it all the way round. We were heading out this night to carry on the drinking games. Both got ready and took a peek outside and noticed it was raining hard... We decided on going for something to eat instead. Rainmacs on walking up the uneven path (if you could call it that). I walked through the puddles to get across, it started off fine, then it got a bit deeper and before you know it, i'm up to my armpits in a hole hahaha completely soaked!! I turned to look at Kelly who had the right idea to wait and work out another way. I just laughed and said 'I've lost my flip flops'. As i climbed out of the hole my flip flops were floating and me and Kelly couldn't stop laughing. You had to be there. Two Laos local were in fits of laughter!! We sat and ate dinner before heading back to dry off.
We had another drunken night the next day as it was to Wet to go tubing!! The red bull out here really does give you wings, Kelly was bouncing from the walls but it was all good!! We LOVED vang Vieng...
Vientiane
The capital of Laos. Stayed for 2 nights. First night was like living in a prison cell!! We wanted to cry. Not a great deal to do here. We visited a few temples and stuff but decided to move on today!! Vietnam here we come!!
Photos will be added soon..... We Miss you all but still not coming home yet!!
Love loads Kelly and Kim xxxxxx
