Sa bai dee!
We have now been in Luang Prabang, Northern Laos for 5 days and never want to leave! It's a fantastic place.
Our stay got off to the ideal start when we stumbled upon a place called Utopia, which is a bar built on stilts in the middle of the forest overlooking the Nam Khan river. If there is a bar in the world with a better setting and location i'd like to pay it a visit.
Our only issue initially was with the bugs. Emma seemed to be particularly popular with the local wildlife, and it got to the point where she was even starting to question her belief that she is the real life Dr Doolittle. It was that bad. So this set us up perfectly for a trip to the darkest depths of the jungle- where of course there'd be no bugs at all- where we were to visit the elephants!
Our 2 day stay with the elephants and their Mahouts (keepers) was a brilliant experience. The elephants are all rescued from logging camps where they are treated cruelly, and are very well looked after at the village. We got to ride them through the jungle for hours, both on our own and with the Mahouts, and then in the morning we rode them into the river, primarily to give them a wash, but also so that Emma's elephant could completely submerge itself, and her, after which she duly fell off. I laughed, the mahouts laughed, the elephants trumpeted, it was great.
Yesterday we visited the Kuang Se waterfall with some friends we made from the elephant trip. Twas a very nice day.
Tomorrow we grudgingly head off to Vang Vieng, which we have heard mixed reviews of but which we must pass through to get to Vientiane, the capital. This trip will be via 6 hour bus- nice.
Hope you are all having a good weekend.
Ps. my hair now looks like a slightly larger microphone.

suzy, tez, dad and sue Brilliant!! Loved reading your news - Emma, bet you had fun with the elephants - we've just had a right laugh too.
Mum Glad things are going well and you're enjoying yourselves. The bugs sound horrible - still at least you got Emma - the amateur entymologist!!!
lucy Ha, I'd have loved to see you fall of Nelly! That bar sounds lush. Keep up the blogs! I want to vomit over myself with envy but liking hearing what your getting up to! Miss you xx (that's Emmi, not you K :)
