I had a decent nights sleep, Angela says she didn't - too hot she says but I must have sleep though the hottest part of the night as that's a real problem for me normally.
Plenty of options at breakfast with an option of omelette made while you wait. The are a few brits in the whole party and we met up again with four of them at the table. Both pair were going on a sight seeing trip of Lima today but we decided to miss that one out as we like finding our own way around. Which normally means my feet hurting from day one ;-)
So off we went exploring the local area, making our way down to the ocean front before the shops had opened. A light mist covered most the sky but as we found on our return this hid deceptive sun. Seems the main aim in Peru if to keep people employed, the are security guards almost on each corner of the street, not that they are armed. As I say the seem a lot of busy people, cleaning, working and watering etc. Puru earned it's second "Angi Star" as she proclaimed "clean enough" as she returned from the public loo.
After taking in a the view of the coast from a number of angles it was time for a rest. We the restraint with the best view and we served with a smile as we cobbled together an order for drinks and a cake each. Neither of us speak a word of Spanish and although we are willing enough we never do get past the basic greetings. Even including a Spanish cause on my Mp3 players hasn't helped, suppose you have listen AND learn.
After a nice cake each we set off again along the coast then turned inland to go to the recently discovered Piramids at Huaca Pucllana. Although I got the feeling that the place really struggled to justify as a real attraction at times that feeling was held back by being able to get right into the history of the place and not being held back by bars like in so many of these historical digs. On the whole very interesting if lacking in real impact but made more interesting by a timing our vist for when some official also visited. From the way he was greeted I thought it was the president of Puru but our English speaking guild informed us, when quizzed, that it was "someone one from Italy".
On the way back to the hotel for a short rest the one thing that keeps bugging me about this city is the consent BEEP BEEP of traffic. Very much like Milan the streets are full with traffic but unlike Milan the horns are not used mostly to warn other drivers. Mostly the noise is taxi drivers seeing someone who looks like a tourist and beeping to get their attraction. No notice is taken to pedestrians and you really do get the impression that they will happy to run you over should you get in their way. We use our tried and tested method to keep us safe crossing the roads. We shadow a local when possible and target the elderly as best option to place between us and the ongoing traffic :-)
Sorry if this blog is boring, we haven't really got to the best bits yet as this day is just a day to get acclimatised before we go into the jungle. It should pick up form here hopefully.
