Hi ya!
Well folks this could be our last blog entry as not sure whether we will have the oppurtunity to do one in Thailand.. but who knows?!.......
I will start where we left off, so...... Greymouth.. by name & by nature.. arrived to rain, rain and more rain.... did get a great sunset on the beach though!
Then travelled down to Franz Josef... and the HUGE Glacier! On the first day we had a stroll to the face of Franz Josef Glacier... blew us away with the shear size (you can see in the picture how insignificant we people are next to it!). The next day was amazing too.... we did the helicopter thing! The weather was perfect for the 30 minute trip! Landed on Mount Cook which is 3,700m above Sea level! It was very white up there.. was about 5 degrees we were told but felt a lot warmer... the sky was the bluest we have ever seen it ... no clouds above us.... just below us!!!!!! Everything was so tiny in comparison to the Mountain and Glaciers! That afternoon we visited another Glacier called 'Fox glacier'. This Glacier is longer than Franz Josef but not the most popular of the two.
Then we headed for Wanaka (be careful how you say it guys!). The scenery on the way down was truelly spectacular! Snow capped mountains, lakes, rivers & glorious weather! Wanaka itself was beautiful... based around the Wanaka lake. Here we went Kayaking... I only lasted 10 mins before Rob took me back to shore!... did not like it! We also walked up a (small) mountain.... in our flip flops!! Then visited puzzle world, where we had lots of fun.. but gave up the maze after 10 minutes!!
Queenstown next! This was probably our favourite place as there was so much to see & do all year round! On top of this it was beautiful! Rob loved it & said he could live here as he would Ski all winter and Bungy and Bingy all summer! The highlight here was the White water rafting & Jet boating along the Shotover River (world 1st).... Yes, Kelly did it & loved every minute! Oh, and we got drunk one afternoon in the heat of the sun, retiring to bed at 8pm.. only to wake at 1130pm & find we had no water in the Camper!!! Serious dry flip flop mouth!!!!!
Next we went to Te Anau.... from here we did Milford Sound.... Weather not too good.. rain & wind & all that.. but the scenery was still good & lots of waterfalls to see!
A brief stay at Dunedin saw us a bit tipsy again.... Rob practising for xmas! Oamaru was our next stop... here we saw 200 Blue penguins(world's smallest) returning from a hard days workout in the ocean!...One of the most special things we have seen! CUTE!
We are currently in Christchurch.. where we leave on 29th & head for Bangkok!
We have & are still enjoying every moment of our trip... time is flying by now... we would like to thank all our family & friends who have kept up-to-date with our travels, especially those who have managed to leave us messages... it has meant a lot! A little bit of home!
Lastly, for those who would like to endure over 1600 photo's and the odd video better start preparing for one hell of a session over the Xmas period....!! Please bring food, beer, sleeping bag & breakfast!!
Love to you all xxx
Rob & Kel signing off! (well might be!)
