Bangkok is a very busy place, and this confused Kez (and Tom!) Khaosan Road is packed full of cool stuff and the first meal we had here was called a pad thai, which is noodle, egg, beansprouts, fish sauce, shrimp and lots of chilli, it was amazing......but Tom paid for it the next day. We didn't want to stay in Bangkok too long, but before we left we went to the Grand Palace and also had an amazing thai massage. Tom's lady was slightly ahead of Kez's and when she was finished on Tom's crusty feet she told him to go upstairs so she could finish the massage. his. face. was. CLASSIC!!!! (litterally petrified) He looked back at Kez before reminding his lady he only wanted a massage, i could hear him repeating this all the way up the stairs until he saw Kez had to do the same.
The 11 hour train journey down to Koh Samui was a mission, not to mention the 8 o clock train was full so we had to wait 5 hours in the station before we could even get on it. At 9am the whole station stood up and started singing along to a song (which i presume was the national anthem) a man shouted at Kez to stand (Tom had gone to the toilet which is a whole in the floor) so she did but got the giggles and had to hide her face!
Eventually we boarded the train at about 12.30pm at which point Kez fell asleep until the train left the station. If she thought it would only be a few more hours she was very wrong! 11 and a half hours after the initial excitement both of us were very tired and also worried we would have to sleep at the station as it was 1am when we got in. However when we got off the train a kindly gent took us in a big tuk tuk to a hostel in Surat Thani. 5 hours of sleep later we were off to catch a boat to Koh Samui, where we sat out on deck and soaked up some Southeast Asian rays! We took a mini bus to Chaweng beach on the east coast of Samui and checked into 'Lucky Mother' bungalows (there is nothing lucky about this place as Tom had his flip flops stolen and is still a little bitter about it)
The next few days we spent sleeping, swimming, eating, and sleeping. Kez has 13 bites and counting and Tom was finally happy again when he got some new flips. We rented a moped for 200 Baht (4 quid) on our 4th day and sped off to see the Na Muang waterfalls. Driving in Thailand is brilliant, if there is a speedlimit, no one cares including the police, you can pretty much ride where you want, and if someone is in your way just honk until they're out of it. The falls were a bit of a treck but luckily a car can take you some of the way. We had some lunch half way up and all in all had a better time than some furious aussies who got duped into an elephant trek which got them to the same point as our car 2 hours later.
The next day we rode out to the Big Buddah, which is fairly self-explanatory but enthrallimg none the less! On the way we were accosted by a Dutch and an Austrian who managed to convince us that we were going to win an impressive prize if we listened to a 90 minute talk on 'Paradise Direct' (a company that claims to get you cheap holidays, and might actually be a good idea!). This turned out to be a fine bit of decision making by Kez as we met a man named Fabio. Fabio had a story about everything...whether they be true or simply his 1/3rd Italian. 1/3rd Brummy, 1/3rd Thai brain fleshing a few very skeleton facts, he was a tour de force of intrigue. From his career as the number 3 water skier in Europe, to his endless ladyboy (chattoys as they are known here, that can be found at chattoys 'r' us!) excursions , it was a thoroughly enjoyable 90 mins (closer to three hours with Fabio at the Lecturn!) he thanked us for being a real couple, for as in the past he has had brothers pretending to be lovers (you have to be a couple to sign up) and when asked to prove it by kissing they nearly angered their respective God and admitted their sibling relationship. As it turned out we didn't have the 3,300 pounds it cost to join and the dream holiday that we won, didn't appear so dreamy after all!
When we finally got to the Big Buddah pier Kez got surrounded by stray dogs who wanted our chicken!! However we took some amazing photos of the Buddahs and the temple!! We are now going to Koh Pha ngan for the full moon party and hopefully a new amazing island that might allow Tom to win Gin Rummy for once!!
Until next time!!
