Greeting from Quito!
Where do I begin?? We arrived early evening (Ecuador time) about midnight UK time saturday after a nightmare flight to a wall of local faces struggling to see us walk through immigration.? To say I was gobb smacked was a total understatement, after collecting our luggage (which had a drugs dog jumping over every piece of it!) we walked through the crowds to meet our taxi.
The drive to our hostel made it totally apparent that this is going to be a life changing experience - we witnessed local children cart wheeling throught the traffic jams hoping to get money for their tricks!? The journey took us through winding streets and reminded me of the streets of san franscisco as they winded up and down step hills.
Upon arriving at the hostel the muggy evening weather turned into a full blown thunderstorm with rain rushing down the streets - nice!? Our room is cool but has no windows as we're at the base of the building, however the bar / terrace area more than makes up for that, the views are phenomenal!? There's a church called the 'basillica' which we're hoping to go visit this afternoon - you can climb up the towers to even better view, so we thought it'd be good training for macchu picchu.
We ventured out this morning? to have a brief look around the old town - its very apparent that sundays here are family days, everyone was all dressed up and walking around together as families.? Another thing thats struck me is that its really colourful, the people, the houses and the landscape - nothing like home!? I still can't believe this continent is home for the next 3 1/2 months, I'm actually the otherside of the world....OMG.
Well thats it for now, now gonna try and upload some of the pics of the hostel, but don't hold your breath?!?? Love to everyone - Kez xxx
