Start of Holiday in Australia
Fri 05/09/08 to Sunday 07/09/08
From Heathrow to Singapore at 22.00 and landed in Singapore at 10.20 local time and had wait until 17.35pm before we board the flight to Cairns,which landed in Darwin before continuing on Cairns, if we know this we could of start our holiday from never mind.
We all survived three security checks were all lost mini pair of succours and shampoo and shower gel etc all due the size be over 100ml, biggest joke was Kevin half filled toothpaste. Arrived CairnsAirport about 6.10am local time, took a mini bus to our hostel which we were last ones to get drop off at Cairns City Backpackers in Private Tripe Room. We all had a shower and crash out due to the jet lag effect.
Monday 8th
The only whole day in Cairns, we all took walk down to the Reef Terminal to catch a boat over to GreenIsland which takes only 50mins to cross the Coral Sea. Once we arrived on the island we all went on glass bottom boat on Great Barrier Reef took some picture of all the different fish, coral, and turtle. This turned out to be good experience for Richard and Pat. The sun was about 80F when in cairns was raining.
Outback of Queensland
Tuesday 9th
The big day and our start of our journey around Australia went to pick up the van , rained all day diving 250km to Townsville to Darwin part of 2789 Km journey camped over night place called Crystal Creek , Richard phoned home and was phone back by Monica.
Wednesday 10th- Friday 12th
On our way to Darwin stop at Pentlands Van Park for morning tea breaks just off the Flinders highway. Carried on to place called Torrens Creek, Very quirky place and no phone service, petrol pump but not fuel.
On the way to Hughenden which was about 192 km away. Were the
fuel was nearly empty (Due to no fuel at Torrens Creek which did not know about) got there on wing and a pray (we all praying that make in time before running out of Fuel) Thanks to the lord and lady lucky. When on to place called Julia's Creek changed some money and still no phone services. On the way Darwin we changed our minds and decide go on to Alice Springs, had buy two petrol cans so we do run out of fuel again.
Onwards to Mount Isa arrived at 13.25 and stop for the night, we all had nice meal in working man club very good just like home. 1st phone connection in days all had wait right time before calling home.
Journey to Northern Territory
Saturday 13th - Sunday 14th
Onwards to Mount Isa to Camooweal about 190Km and 268Km
before arrived at Barky's Homestead and stop for the night council run caravan park and once again no phone connection. Richard meat some Christian fellow traveller's, they were lovely people had cup of tea and chatted about all different things. We had first rain in the night in 5 days.
Started that morning on way to Alice Springs, which at that point was over 746km away. Our first stop for change over driver's at Tennant Creek 202Km marker before carry on to Barrow Creekin Camp site behind the Telegraph station and roadhouse which only had one power box working, would give this zero Stars due to being on $15 AUDand really in the outback.
Monday 15th
Started that morning on way to Alice Springs, stopped at Wycliffe Wells the place were UFO had more sightings in whole of Australia now onto AliceSpring this morning. Arrived in Alice found a good site lots on here, stay other two days. Richard phone keeps going wrong.
Tuesday 16th
Went out visit today first The Flying Doctors and then onto Hall of Frame for Old Vehicle & Trucks all sorts main one is kenworth angler trucks come out give them a brand new one. One they got this year cost around 4 ½ million dollars brand new model out see photo - Richard does not feel good today with pain but coping with pain killers, went to bed early tonight.
Wednesday 17th
After two days in Alice seeing around all the sites we made our way over to Yulara (Ayers Rock (Uluru)) set off at 9.30 am arrived about 16.00 hrs cannot parks in Ayers Rock to camp. Camp fees are $100 AUD for 3 people for two nights and $40 to go a mini bus, if you use your only transport only cost $25.00 to get into National Park around Uluru.
(Richard) Final was able to call home on his mobile after no services for 100's Km. the heat is about 80- 90f bottle some and take it home for all friends and family. We pass a place called Mt Connor that look like big red but small with a flat top as you will see in photo's.
Went for walks about last night suppose to take about 15 mins -went the wrong way came back following map. That sent us the wrong way in the first place, we ask young lady stopped us and put on the right way. So what was 15 mins walk turn into 75 mins walk.
Thursday 18th
Set of for Ayers Rock (Uluru) first to bank then to the flying doctors place for Richard, nurse give him a good looking over and all clear was given (Just got they Northern Territory Cold) gave him some flu tablets and told to drink 2Ltr of water per a day.
Saw the Rock which was awesome 9.4km's (6 Miles) around the base. Patrick said was going to climb up to top of Uluru but only got up 1/3 way up and back to camping grounds about 15.00 Hrs for a cup of Tea and the temp is still up in the 80's F.
The Rock is about 21Km for where we are camping - the 15Km from where you pay $25 to entry for 3 day pass for the National Park around Uluru. If we had time to see Kings Cannon and The Olga's.
