A disturbed night due to rain followed by extreme cold eventually gave way to a warm, sunny morning. None of us were feeling too great due to tiredness & effects of altitude sickness. Craig was suffering particularly badly & breakfast was difficult to face for all of us. I managed a slice of toast & a bowl of porridge.
We were told that today's walk would be short at about 4 hours but steep, going from 3,675 meters to 4,300 to Mawesi Tarn Camp. This proved to be the case & we all found it difficult going & we all suffered from breathlessness due to the altitude. Around 10:30 we took a drinks rest with spectacular views of both peaks & down through the clouds to the vast plains of Kenya.
We arrived at camp ahead of schedule at 1:00pm. We were all exhausted & suffering varying degrees of altitude sickness. After a lunch of chips, beans & French toast we had an hours rest in our tents before a one hour round walk rising another 250 meters for acclimatisation. The return leg was completed in a hale storm.
The evening was very cold & after a dinner of soup followed by pasta & green beans we returned to our tents at 6:30pm to put on as many layers as we could & then try to get some sleep.
