Today was a long day traveling by bus from Luang Pertang to Vang Vieng (Apologies again as spelling is probably not right but all my posts are done late at night in bed without any notes).
Fantastic mountain scenery on the way and a number of stops to see local life which broke the journey.
Most interesting was the stop at the local "wildlife market" where they were selling just about anything you could think of for the table - some of it illegal.
We came accrodd hornbill soup, made from the heads of hornbill birds, live crabs and wild birds of all types, a squirrel thing (already dead) and some yellow gunge in a jar used to heal cuts and also good for cancer according to the label our guide read. Tried to find out what it was but all we could understand was that it was made from bits of animals.
They also had lou whisky with herbs, spices and other bits and bobs in the bottles - think I'll stick to Laphroig.
Arrived in Viang Veng just in time to see the sun set over the mountains.
Hotel in an excellent location by the river. It was only built last year but already falling apart.
