Kevin and Joannie on tour
Kevin has done a lot of driving over the past few days. Kevin woke at 9 and washed up from the night
before. Joan woke an hour later. By the
time breakfast was eaten and showers were taken, it was already midday and
burning hot.
We decided to find a laundry and catch up on the blog. We sat in the shade of a restaurant in the
plaza, ate a substantial lunch and caught up with the world. There were lots of dogs lying around and they
helped with the portions.
St Pedro in itself isn’t that interesting but it is a
launching point for trips to salt flats, high mountain lakes and the El Tatio
geysers. Virtually every second shop sells tours – all remarkably similar. There must be thirty or so tour
operators. It’s probably the most
touristy place in Chile and full of travellers young and old, ourselves included.
They’re also a lot of ethnic knitted wares on sale.
After lunch we had a walk around, dropped off our laundry
and found the petrol station that was cleverly disguised as a hotel.
Then we went back to our motorhome and read novels. After all we are on holiday! We are parked by
the communal kitchen and the young people gather there to swap stories. Tonight, one young man was particularly
loud, showing his knowledge of other destinations. Kevin said that the other
two travellers he was regaling looked totally bored. Eventually they cleared
off to bed, but bizarrely enough, we kept on reading our books to the early
hours of the morning. Weird!
