Tuesday 9th February
In the morning Lisa and I got the shuttle bus into town to get our washing done and grabbed some brunch. A couple of hours later we made it back to the swimming pool at the hostel and chilled making the most of the sun before our night bus. We chatted to a guy called James who had done tons of travelling and invited him to make pancakes with us as no other nationalities there seemed to be celebrating pancake day. This year I've given up chocolate for lent!
After I'd explained to James that I felt I hadn't done a great deal of learning about Australia's history yet, James then shared with me some information about the aboriginal stories and areas of Australia which was interesting. He also shared some good ice breakers/party games to new groups of people you meet and we worked out he knew Jess who we'd spent time with in Noosa. That night we caught a 10 hour bus to Airlie beach (which had turned up 45mins late). We arrived to Base hostel around 8am, checked into our room and had a good sleep until lunch time.
Wednesday 10th February
When we woke up, we went to get some lunch each on our own wanting different food and then checked in at the office for our Whitsundays boat trip the next day.
We chilled by the pool until friends arrived and met everyone in the hostel Downunder bar at 7.30pm. Crab racing was on - something that although is popular in Australia, we hadn't yet seen. Lisa, Jess and I took part and together we won with our crab with the United Kingdom flag painted on its shell called Big Liz! We got a pitched of beer and enjoyed it with our friends. Jess introduced us to Koen and Dez two of her friends and we saw Yael, Matt (who we found was on our trip the next day), Vicky and Dave (sadly Laura had now returned to New Zealand) and Adam from our Fraser Island trip. I went to bed about 1am once I'd finished on the phone to Nick and left Lisa up dancing with friends.
